For those of you who know your Mustang history, you'll appreciate these have been inspired by the rear lights on the '67/'68 (and even the '69/'70) Shelby GT500.

It would be a cool way for Ford to differentiate the rear of the next GT500 :)

I don't think regulations would allow lights to continue on to the trim piece, which would make them reflectors, which would not make the car faster, just extra weight that doesn't need to be there.

Yeah, good point. Even the Camaro isn't too dissimilar, these days :(

And I hate to think how much it would cost to tool up for unique tail lights. I guess Shelby got away with it back then as they were (I believe) Cougar tail lights.

:)

Yeah, they're the Cougar lights without the styling ribs.

They were also used on the 67/68 GT/CS cars.

Of course....I'd forgotten that!

Personally, I don't think you can beat the triple tails on the Mustang, it's such a cool Mustang signature :)

While different and true to the past in a nostalgic way, not sure the new car should do that.

Also, my first thought on seeing the picture was that it was a new Challenger bruise things have done A very similar T aillight style to death.

Dodge Chargers, Dodge Darts, Dodge Durangos and Lincoln SUVs have taillights that span across the entire back of the car. Lots of vehicles have taillights that extend on to the trunk/hatch trim panel. There are no regulations that would prohibit it.

Incorrect.
They were standard 1965 Thunderbird tail lights with a chrome trim piece and converted to flash sequentially

I like it. The three bars are fine, but this is a good idea that would differentiate models without being excessively blingy. I get irritated when cars have too many huge badges and letters everywhere, but I could get onboard for a more subtle styling cue.

Sorry, but :barf:
