I am bored anyway and we started talking about other cars on the cold feet thread so I thought I would get this one going.

What's you favourite American Car and maybe a little story behind it. Why you like it, what got you into it etc.

Mine is very clear (sorry Ford fans) its a 1957 Chevy Bel Air two door.

It all started for me when I was about 5. I got my first record player (for the likes of Manders etc, thats an old form of playing music) and my parents gave me an Elvis record. On the front of the cover he was standing by a Pink Caddy and I just loved it. I then got a book on American Cars for Christmas and centre pages was a picture of this car and I was besotted by it.

Through my youth I had Air Fix models, Scale Models, Match box cars, Posters, and books on this car.

I REALLY REALLY WANT ONE and plan on getting one in the next few years.

1958 Plymouth Fury. It's a damn fine looking car in Christine-form...

Honourable mentions to the Bullitt Mustang which got me started down the road to Mustang ownership and similar to SteveC, anything 50s like the Bel Air.

All are potential purchases should money ever become no object.

Absolutely not interested in anything American (sorry about that, chaps) until the S550. But I do now have a dream American car; Shadow Black GT350R :D

I shall have you know that I probably have a bigger record collection that you at this point in time - I go to the gym purely so I can lift one of the boxes out of its awkward cubby hole without breaking my shoulder. ;):D

But that aside - I can't say no to a good Corvette.

Same with new Cadillacs.

I'd rock the hell out of it like a boss.

In the future I'd love an '87 IROC-Z as a project car.

Outside of these three, I have zero interest in American cars (the Mustang II and FoxBody in particular I find to be really quite horrid). For classics I'm firmly in the Euro and Japanese camps. Gimmie an E-Type for the 60s, a Fairlady for the 70s and a B2 Quattro for the 80s.
