For those who have added mods already, who have you used for insurance and what was the hit?

I did a comparethemarket quote and got my usual £400 ish (Its £300 on directline but separate query lol) for a standard car. Wasn't sure what to tick for vinyl tints/stripes so put it under paintwork/stickers > Decals.

Adding just those jumps it up to £900+ which seems a ridiculous change and I feel I must be doing something wrong or putting them under the wrong category. If its that much for a "decal" then I can't see stripes being added later!

Factory fitted stripes shouldn't affect the insurance as its not an aftermarket mod.

Mine won't be factory. Missed the chance to add before order was locked in. Will have to add them post delivery.

Mainly it's the light tint kit. I will speak to some insurers on the phone but thought I would see who people used and are worth talking to.

Nope, that sounds about right for stickers.
With me it was an extra £90 for a full exhaust system and £200 for some stickers.

Factory fitted stripes shouldn't affect the insurance as its not an aftermarket mod.
Remember to always read the fine print!
Some insurers will deem a factory fitted extra "non-standard" and you have to declare it. Esure, for example, requires you to tell them about any factory fitted options or else they could void your insurance.

Been playing around with calculator on go compare as it seems a little cheaper. £340 with no mods and £376 with "stickers/decals" which I think is closest match.

That's with esure. Will check quotes closer to delivery but may ring them tomorrow to get a direction in what they would class red tints on rear lights as.

Also going to give Adrian flux a ring as lots of comments online about them and modified cars.

So much for Adrian Flux. £1100 cheapest quote with stripes and light tints...

Looks like I won't be modifying for a while lol

The world of insurance ehy! Make sure you tell them you want to insure it, in a months time, and the timescale is the same for all, insuring for 'next day' is way more expensive than a month in advance.

That being said it's not a £700 rise! :eyebulge:

Looking through what they sent me for a quote I think he screwed it up anyway. On the phone he automatically assumed import as its a Mustang and I had to correct his 3 times. Chances are he put it down as import only as didn't seem to believe me that it was a UK vehicle.

They also asked about my car history and other than track days this is in a class of its own against what I have had before (200bhp diesel barges).

(if that's sarcasm i've missed it) But yes, I insured my car recently, had done quotes for MONTHS before it was due, getting around 300-400 quid, then delayed, stalled, and it came to the few days before, was £555.91. Even after moaning to the companies saying my quotes were still in date (of the 30 days) but they can't hold that number. It's sh1te. (fortunatley i'll be dropping the car soon and the insurance too)

No, not sarcasm, genuinely didn't know that. Used to work in South London claims for "a large insurer" but as a claims handler I was more involved in refusing to pay deserving cases. We left it to the underwriters to screw people for premiums we'd later refuse to honour ;)

Scumb&gs, the lot of us...

I'm going from c600 to just under 800 going from a 1.2L Corsa to a 2.3L turbo mustang............... Don't ask, i'm not complaining.
SteveS ah you cun7's hate the lot of you hahaha! They claim they change day by day and by underwriters rates and by things happening on the day/week in that area. But in short, when your a month ready for renewal, renew then, save yourself a few hundered (If you're a 21yr old)

When I got a quote off of Direct Line about my Daughters car, the conversation turned to my plans.
Cut a long story short, I told him the basics & he asked again the value. Again I told him 36k & he said "but you said it was new?".
Went around & around on this subject & took ages for him to believe that a new 5.0L Mustang (not imported) wasn't 75k or more.

Was quite funny really. He ended the conversation that he'd go home after shift & look up the 'new Ford Mustang'........ he knew nothing about it.

Was about 2 weeks ago!
