2016 Mustang GT with GT500 Axleback Exhaust

When it comes to exhaust sound, Mustang owners’ opinions are as varied as the options that exist. One winning formula throughout the years has been to take a tried and true high-performance Mustang exhaust and with some cutting and welding fit it to a new model.

That is what M6G member dev1360 (Devlin) has done recently by fashioning an FRPP 2011-12 Shelby GT500 axleback onto his 2016 Mustang GT.

To do so, the stock mufflers of the Mustang GT were cut off at the rear-most welds where standard S550 axlebacks require cutting. Then, on the GT500 mufflers, the two rear hangers and stock inlet pipes were removed and welded to the S550 factory catback and extra piping — with all the fab work done by WagonWheel Performance.

Combined with an X-pipe resonator delete, the end result of this custom exhaust work is a throaty rumble that is deep, composed and free of drone.
