Shelby GT350 Mustang Laps the Texas World Speedway

The new Shelby GT350 Mustang made an appearance at the Texas World Speedway this weekend, marking the first time the new high-powered S550 Mustang has publicly ran laps on a track.

This milestone was made even more special since it was the first public showing of the new Avalanche Gray exterior paint color that will be offered on the GT350 and GT350R Mustangs.

In photos and videos taken by M6G member Backorder, this technical tool (TT) build GT350 is shown with the optional technology package which includes non-Recaro leather seats with extra bolstering compared to the standard S550 seats, as noted in the order guide we showed you first.

The videos give us a great listen as Ford test drivers revved the engine at idle and right before doing a few laps (never going above 30-40 mph we are told) behind a procession of other generation Mustangs, including the original Shelby GT350.

A few other tidbits were learned through the audio recordings obtained by Backorder, as Ford representatives confirmed that the larger spoiler would be reserved for the GT350’s optional Track Package.

As for the model year — Ford has made it no secret that the vehicle will be available late 2015, so why has Ford still refrained from calling it a 2016 model year vehicle in any official statements or literature?  To this, a Ford representative replied, “we haven’t divulged the model year yet and there is a reason for that” while also clarifying that it will be available “earlier in the fourth quarter.”

Have a look and listen at all the photos, video and audio recordings.
