FP Director Confirms 2020 GT500 Mustang Coming Second Half 2019, Packing Much More Than 700 HP

In a recent interview with MotorTrend, Ford Performance Director Hermann Salenbauch, revealed some more info on the upcoming 2020 Shelby GT500 Mustang.

First off, Salenbauch confirmed that the next GT500 will be a 2020 model year available sometime in the second half of next year.

In terms of performance, the 2020 GT500 will deploy power in a different way than the track-focused GT350, although perhaps less differently than in years past. “GT500 for the first time will be very track-capable, but it’s also very straight-lined. It plays in both and gives you the high level of horsepower. You will not spin a tire as easily in a GT350, but a GT500 will have strengths that a GT350 doesn’t have,” Salenbauch noted.

Ford previously announced that the next-gen GT500 would have more than 700 horsepower, but the Ford Performance director had a little more to say about that — revealing that “it’s not 701 or 702; it’s plus and a bit more.”
