World’s Fastest S550 Mustang with IRS, First to the 7’s!

A new world record has been set for the fastest S550 Mustang with independent rear suspension in the quarter-mile, and the first in the 7-second range.

The feat was performed by Sheldon Lewis of Straight Performance Racing (SPR) in his 2017 Mustang GT and if the 7.9 @ 179 MPH pass isn’t impressive enough, the vehicle is very much still a true street car with full interior.

To accomplish the 7-second run, this 2017 Mustang GT relied on an SPR Built Coyote Engine, CPR/Wicked Chassis single turbo system (88mm), Powertrain Specialties TH400, PTC Converter, GForce 9″ IRS system, BMR IRS Suspension System (CB005), Viking front coilovers, and tuning by Sai Li.

Even with the world record setting pass, Sheldon isn’t resting on his laurels, as he’s got 7.6x and 7.7x time slips in his sights.
