If there was any doubt that the Mustang GT4 will be a formidable contender in this year’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge it was removed today with an all-Mustang (GT4) front row lockout during the season-opener qualifying race at Daytona for this weekend’s BMW Endurance Challenge.
Driver Dean Martin piloted the KohR Motorsports No. 59 — the first customer program Mustang GT4 worldwide and a late addition to the Daytona entry list who took delivery of the vehicle only one week ago — not only won the pole position for today’s race but did it with a blazing time of 1:55.754.
By doing so, Martin edged out the Multimatic Motorsports No. 15 Mustang GT4 driven by Scott Maxwell by 0.034 seconds and (unofficially) broke the existing GS-class track record held since 2014 by Maxwell’s No. 15 teammate, Jade Buford.
The Mustang GT4 will lead the field in the BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona set for 12:15 p.m.. ET today with live coverage available at IMSA.com and a telecast scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11:30 a.m. ET on FS1.
