More GT350 Mustang Prototypes Spotted — What’s with the Rear Wing?

While the 2016 Shelby GT350 was revealed a few months back, Ford has yet to disclose all of the details about pricing, specifications and packaging/options.  Even the leaked draft order guide that we showed you has raised nearly as many questions as it answered.

One of those questions surrounds the different spoilers worn by the GT350 and GT350R show cars that Ford has brought to the auto shows.  While we know the R version will wear a large carbon fiber rear wing that Ford designed out on the race track and claims to provide fantastic downforce, it is still unclear whether it will also be offered as a standalone option or part number through Ford Racing.

Another question is whether there will be other options (perhaps included with the GT350 track pack) like this medium-sized spoiler shown at both the Detroit and Washington Auto Shows.

To add to this, yesterday our photographers caught this prototype sporting the GT350R Mustang rear wing with a support piece mounted to the edge of the trunk lid.  Given the lack of carbon fiber wheels and mixed and matched parts, it is clear that plenty of testing is still ongoing.

Of course this is not surprising, as Dave Pericak responded “we are still fine tuning it” when asked for a specific downforce number.
