As I was doing some work that necessitated to once more pull down the
map light casing (yeah, this time the attachment broke, so I do not
recommend messing with the map light casing unless you really need
to), I in addition to brighter leds for the map lights also thought I
could implement a way to switch the lights off, without adding another
switch/button.

Unlike other procedures I've seen, this way does it without adding an
additional switch. The disadvantage is you lose individual control
over the two map lights, but I don't care about that (I'm fine with both
lights being on or off at the same time).

After this procedure the existing driver side map light switch will
function as before, except it will now control the light on the
passenger side too.

The passenger side map light switch will on the other hand give absolute
control to turn the map lights off, regardless of whether the system
wants to switch them on automatically because you open the car door,
shut down the car, etc.

Cons: no longer able to turn on/off the two map lights individually.
Pros: no additional switch needs to be added.

All wires and colours mentioned are as on my 2020 Mustang, so "YMMV".

Background:

Each switch has three wires. Two going in from the harness, one going
out to the lightbulb.

Each lightbulb socket has two wires going in. One ground from the
harness, and one live wire from the switch.

Procedure:

Wires used during this procedure are as follows, listed in the order
one can do this rewiring. Wires need to either be cut in half, or only
spliced open so another wire can be connected to them.

DS-LW - DriverSide-LightbulbWire. Wire going to the lightbulb from the
map light switch on the driver side. Colour: white.

Cut this wire in half on the middle.

Splice the end that is connected to the light bulb to PS-LW.
Don't cut the PS-LW in half, only splice this DS-LW in to it.

Both map light bulbs will now be connected to the switch
on the passenger side.

The other end of this DS-LW wire (the one connected to the switch)
needs to be connected to the AlLi-wire on the passenger side.

AlLi - AlwaysLive. Colour: yellow. Wire going in to the map light
switch. One to each switch. Always live, within the
Ford-configured time limit (about 10 minutes after car is switch.

Driver side: don't touch.

Passenger side: cut in half.

The half going into the switch should be connected to the DS-LW-end
that is going in to the switch on the drivers side, as described
under DS-LW.

The other end of this AlLi-wire on the passenger side will not
be used and should be isolated.

LiAu - LiveAutomatically. Colour: grey. Wire going in to the map light
switches, one to each switch. Live when system wants to turn
on the map lights (e.g., after shutting of the engine), neutral
otherwise.

Driver side: don't touch.

Passenger side: disconnect from the switch by cutting it in half
and isolate both ends. Will not be used.

PS-LW - PassengerSide-LightbulbWire. Wire going to the lightbulb from the
map light switch on the passenger side. DS-LW will be spliced
into this wire. So don't cut this PS-LW wire, only splice
into it. Should already have done this in the DS-LW step.
