Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me get clarification on the diameter of the Shelby GT350 rear sway bar.

Some sources say it's 22.2 mm.
Other sources say it's 23.6 or 24.0 mm.

Anyone know for sure, or willing to put a caliper on their GT350 rear sway bar to confirm?

Rear Sway Bar
GT350 (FR3Z-5A772-E): Is this bar 22.2 mm or 23.6 mm? I can't get a consistent answer on this.

GT350R (FR3Z-5A772-G): Sources say it's 23.6mm, but 8 mm shorter then the GT350 bar.

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

If you look under your vehicle there is a tag on the sway bar itself with the thickness indicated. Mine says 22.2. I bought the R rear sway bar and it says 24.0 on it.

edit: Guess it is 22.2!

I like to disassemble things.
Factory sizes as listed on the sway bar tags are accurate.

R rear bar on top, non-R on bottom.

I'm trying to order the 24 mm rear sway bar.

I'm getting conflicting information on which part number is for the 24mm version.

FR3Z-5A772-E

FR3Z-5A772-G

Levittown Ford is trying to assist. Their public site shows the GT350R is FR3Z-5A772-G. Their internal database shows that the FR3Z-5A772-E is the R-version. Their internal database lists the FR3Z-5A772-G is the Magneride version.

The picture shown above (FR3Z-5A772-EA) I'm told by Levittown is an "Engineering Number" no cross reference in their system.

Anyone know for sure if the FR3Z-5A772-E is a 24 mm , non-Magneride bar?

"E" as shown above. Remember to get the pair of corresponding bar bushings too as they have a larger diameter opening that is a match to the R bar.

Good reminder - here are the part numbers for those, too....

Yes, I've got the rear bushings on order as well. Thanks everyone.

Swapping out the front sway as well:
FR3Z-5482-J

Front bushings: FR3Z-5484-C (x2)

It was my understanding the the front bars were the same, R or non-R GT350. Is this for your GT?

Yes sir. That is what I've determined in my research. GT350 & GT350R both use the same front sway bar (34 mm).
I'm looking to upgrade the stock 32 mm / 22.2 mm GT Performance Pack sway bars to GT350R 34 mm / 24 mm.

I'm thinking this will be a perfect upgrade without going too far on the sway bar stiffness.

Great price point too.

How would that extra 1.8 mm affect the GT350's performance and comfort?

The stiffer rear sway bar will increase the speed of side-to-side weight transfer in the rear, making the car a bit more tail happy.

The ride will likely be slightly worse, due to the increased coupling between the two rear wheels (they will act less independently when going over bumps).

I have an adjustable rear sway bar on my 350Z, and the increased stiffness will occasionally cause the end link bracket to fail. When that happens the car goes from feeling very lively, to feeling quite a bit softer in terms of balance. The rear end really does not want to move much. I notice a difference in ride quality, but not a huge one (and that's basically disconnecting the sway bar). I don't think the GT350's ride will change too much with the larger bar.

Agreed. The 24mm bar is ~37% stiffer than the 22.2mm one. When Ford increased the front spring rate by ~24%, which promotes understeer, it appears they compensated by increasing the rear bar stiffness. Final result is increased roll stiffness, while maintaining handling balance.

OP: Looks like if you make the change, you'll increase the stiffness by ~27% front and ~37% rear.
