2.3L EcoBoost 2015 Mustang Engine Spotted

Friend of Hooniverse Joe Carioti was minding his own business at the Detroit Auto Show. He happened upon a 2015 Ford Mustang with its hood open. This is important, because none of the hoods were supposed to be open. Ford actually removed hood latches from the car to keep this from happening.

It’s even more important… because this is your first glimpse at the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang.

Early word is that this mill will push out around 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Since it’s an Ecoboost unit, it will certainly have a delightful torque curve, and it should prove to be a great match for the new Mustang.

I hope it puts out more than 305hp. That's only just barely trying to get it over the 3.7.

Maybe 305hp at the wheels? That would be around 340hp (aprox) w/ a 12% drivetrain loss.

Who was it bitching about the Battlestar Galactica cover for the 5.0? I think this looks more like Galactica than the 5.0 one does! I'm glad these are all "pre-production" and not 100% finished because that whole engine bay looks like a bag of ass.

I think it just parroting the typical media misinformation, the fact is Ford has repeatedly said >305hp. That doesn't mean "about 305hp" it means greater than. I would gues 315 when all is said and done, Ford would certainly slightly lowball any number they promised to be greater than. Really starting to annoy me now how 305 and 420 are becoming gospel. Ford needs to release the official numbers soon.

Color was the first thing I noticed... But I'm wondering if it really is the orange or if it's the lighting and quality of the camera. I've noticed in a few videos and pictures of the race red they showed off in LA looks orange. I'm wondering if these images/video are suffering from the same optical illusions.
