This thread is for latest news and discussion on the plans for the Mustang 50th Anniversary Celebration from April 16 to 20, 2014 - where it is my hope, expectations, guess that Ford will show off the S550 to all of the highly pregnant-with-expectations Mustang fans.

Information on accommodations etc. and registration forms and online access for the two Celebrations (LasVegas and Charlotte, NC) are available here:
http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com/index.html

This will not be an MCA judged car show. It will be a celebration, but you may want to get your car registered to have access onto the Charlotte or Las Vegas Motor Speedway grounds or you will be parked outside in the parking lots. To get registered, you will want to do so early. It is my understanding that they are expecting many thousands of Mustangs at each location, and I am sure they will easily reach the cutoff for availability inside the raceways.

There is a one day pre-party planned for Mustang Oklahoma (actually in Norman OK) on the weekend before the main events, and two large Pony Drives from Norman OK to the main sites. There are also plans to organize Pony Drive Spurs from nine different starting points around the US to meet in Norman OK.

Information on the nine Spurs traveling to Norman and the two large Pony Drives traveling to LasVegas and Charlotte (actually Concord, NC) can be found here: http://ponydrive.us/index.php?id=50th-anniversary-pony-drive

Registration info for the Pony Drives can be found at the above site. Click on 'Registration'. Accommodation information is also available at this site.

If you miss the 50th, you may have to wait until the 100th Anniversary to attend a Mustang celebration on this scale.

The Mustangs Across America organization run by Sam Haymart is also planning a large Mustang caravan from Las Angeles to Concord, NC. This caravan will be taking a different route than the Pony Drives described in the previous entry. Sam already has 200 Mustangs registered for his caravan.

Check out registration information for this caravan at the MAA website here: http://mustangsacrossamerica.com/

I just can't imagine Ford disappointing the Mustang nation by not having the S550 at these Celebrations. It would be a disaster for both Ford and the MCA.

Hi John

I'm about to register for the event.........from the UK. Looking at the website, it seems to have accepted my UK address and I intend to purchase 2x ALL DAYS passes (for me and Mrs TT - both my children will be coming, but they will be 9 and 5 years old, respectively).

Before I hit "Pay by Paypal"........are you aware of any issues registering from abroad?

Cheers
Paul

April 21st is my birthday, and dammit I'm a two-hour drive from Charlotte Motor Speedway.

I'm going. And if Ford doesn't show the S550 I can see if I could pull a few strings and talk to Mr. Mulally about this.

Hi Paul,
There better not be any issues for non-Americans. Lots of Canucks are goings, and I have Limey, Kiwi, and Aussie friends who are planning to be there.

FYI, the GAPD team are trying to make some arrangements for good prices on rental Mustangs for our off-shore friends. Not sure how that is going.

Please advise here if you run into any registration problems.

See you in Concord

Thanks John.........just need to check a few details with Mrs TT before committing. However, we're aiming to head to Vegas as we'll be incorporating a bit of a West Coast vacation........DisneyLand for the kids, 50th Celebrations (and a tour of the new Shelby factory!) for me .......plus maybe a National Park or two :)

I'll report back with any issues with the registration :)

I am actually thinking about renting a Mustang to do my cruise... I don't want to take a 1/4 mile car cross country...

You guys will be pleased to know that Roush was busted with the S550 at their Engineering, Testing, Design and Prototype facility in the Amy spy video. The car is near finished if Roush is working on the Roush kits already... Probably a unique fascia as well.

May I suggest a new 2014 Hertz Penske GT, I am trying to reserve one now.

Thed, If the S550 doesn't make it to the show, you can bet that a whole bunch of (ex)Ford fans will want to talk to Mulally. Me included.

I am hoping that Ford and the MCA will be advising us re the S550 well before the beginning of April when some of us will be getting on the road. The plans for the Celebration have not been released as yet.

I would love to rent a Mustang for our trip, but Mrs TT says no :(

I can see her point, 4-up with all our luggage is going to be a squeeze, especially for the kids in the back. Even more so as it'd likely be a 'vert.

A nice comfy Ford Explorer is what I'm hoping to rent, instead.

However, assuming there are any left (I'm guess rental Mustangs will be VERY popular in April '14 LOL) we WILL be renting one for at least a day or two when we're in Vegas :headbang:

As requested:

You can register for the Charlotte Celebration here: http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com/charlotte/registration.html

Those going to Vegas can register here: http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com/vegas/registration.html

And those wishing to join one of the Pony Drives to the 50th Celebration can register here: http://ponydrive.us/index.php?id=50th-birthday-pony-drive-route-details

For accommodations in Charlotte use this website:
http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com/charlotte/index.html and select the 'Hotel' button. When you then 'Select Event' you will go through a reservation selection process for about 16 hotels in the Concord/Charlotte area. Some are already showing "No Reservations Available", but maybe that's a 2014 thing.

For accommodations in Vegas use this website:
http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com/vegas/index.html and select the 'Hotel' button. Enter your search parameters and again you will be provided with a list of MCA selected hotels.

For accommodations in Norman use this website:
http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com/ponydrive/index.html and select the 'Host Hotel' button. Enter your search parameters for reservations at the NCED Conference Center.

Get your reservations in soon so you won't be disappointed.

TT IS ON HIS WAY TO VEGAS, BABY!!! :D:D:D:D

A slight change of plan in that we're leaving the kids with the grandparents, so it's just me n Mrs TT!

Flights are booked, as are 5 nights in the Luxor. I've just registered with MCA for 2 All Day passes.

Just gotta rent a Stang now :D

There isn't a smiley to show how excited I am, so a few more of these will have to do :D:D:D:D
