Hey Guys!
I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what date/location my 2.3l engine was made. I have a 2015 and have heard that some of the early engines are more subjective to failure.
Of course with proper maintenance and supports mods (Upgraded spark plugs, catch can, cooling mods, etc) a engine can have a long life even with added performance.
Is there a website or a way to find out what month your engine was made or the location?

It's on the front of the valve cover. You can just see the sticker underneath the engine cover.

If you don't want to pull the engine cover, you can just take your cell phone hold it down there and take a pic with the flash on up under that cover.

This is what it should look like if it's a late 2015 or early 2016

The earlier models have a Barcode on them and are the engines in question.

Did they ever find out why the earlier engines were subjected to early failure?

Nothing definite. The obvious difference was the move from Spain to US. As far as technical changes with that move, I've heard things but nothing definitive. Like torque specs on the rods.

Personally I think it's more to do with community learning. Most of the early build were the ones that we learned on. We had figured out a lot by the time that move was made so they end up looking better. We have several people that have early engines that have been running very hard for LOTS of miles with no issues. The people I can think of all seem to know a lot about tuning so they would avoid some of the rookie mistakes.

This was from another thread, this is what Adam from Tune+ told one of his customers who had a blown engine that was replaced by ford

“the good thing is with your new motor you are going to get their latest revision which addresses a lot of the issues. I think the reason you got a new motor is because of the old motor design. The new has better crankcase ventilation, a different HPFP, and a different HPFP sensor. Rods are also different as well.”

FYI the search function works wonders, there are sooo many threads on this same exact topic

Well, I'm surprised. I honestly didn't expect a Spanish motor. I assumed this was a late 15 model when I bought it 3 1/2 weeks ago. How do I read the build date?

If I understand correctly, it is Nov 20, 2014. You read it after the E100 as DDMMYY. Yours was built 8 days after mine.

Actually, that might be incorrect, I'll edit in a minute. I think someone said another code actually gave the build date.
