Limited Edition Mustangs Commemorate 80th Birthday of “The King” Richard Petty with Silver Design

Petty’s Garage announced today their continued partnership with the Ford Motor Company to exclusively build 500 “King Edition” Ford Mustang GT models. Included in the 2017 lineup is a limited run of 43 builds that include a silver scheme to celebrate “The King” Richard Petty and his 80th birthday in July, 2017.

This is the third year that Petty’s Garage and Ford Motor Company have joined forces to build the King Edition Ford Mustangs. Since the popularity of the vehicles continues to grow each year, the 2017 builds will be the largest to date.

Petty’s Garage will be the exclusive builder of four, one-of-a-kind, Mustangs. The high-performance shop will build a naturally-aspirated, non-supercharged model with all the looks and feel of the Petty’s Garage Mustang that customers and fans have become accustom to, but at a lower introduction price.

Petty’s Garage will also introduce a new King EcoBoost model in 2017. This model, with the addition of the race spoiler and signature center exhaust system, mirrors the look of all other Petty’s Garage Mustangs, but doesn’t sacrifice on power. It is the most radical EcoBoost available to purchase from your local Ford dealer.

The Petty tradition of unmatched speed and performance will continue with the 2017 King and Premier Edition Mustangs as the Premier build will produce up to 825 horsepower. All vehicles will be available at your local Ford dealership nationwide with the non-supercharged Petty’s Garage Mustangs starting as low as $35,000 MSRP. A full warranty through Ford is included with the purchase of a 670 horsepower Mustang while the Premier, 825 horsepower edition, will offer a third-party powertrain warranty for three years/36,000 miles.

“We couldn’t be more excited to continue our relationship with Ford Motor Company and announce our builds of the 2017 Mustang,” said Russ Stellfox, Chief Executive Officer, Petty’s Garage. “These vehicles will carry a special meaning with a scheme that will honor Richard Petty and his 80th birthday in 2017. The silver design is the same as the 25th anniversary scheme that the famous No. 43 raced in 1996. We’re honored to offer this to our fans and customers and believe that these machines will be in high demand.”

Upgrades to increase the horsepower to 727* or 825* are available at Petty’s Garage, as well as custom paint and vinyl strip packages to allow Ford dealerships and individuals to personalize their Petty’s Garage Mustang. Petty’s garage also offers a full-line of suspension components, brakes, wheels and tires to further enhance the customization of their King Edition Mustang.

Bet FiatChrysler is reeling from this, considering that the most iconic cars petty won races in were Mopar... ;)

Also an acknowledgement of what an overweight pig the Challenger is

+1 Agree.
Richard Petty's success was behind the wheel of Chrysler Products (Dodge Charger, Plymouth Road Runner, etc).

Richard Petty Motorsports:
From Wikipedia: "Known for its factory backing from Dodge since its inception, the team switched to Ford in late 2009 and merged with Yates Racing for 2010. The team has the odd distinction of being the result of three successful teams (Evernham, Petty, & Yates) merging after falling on hard times."

Still, not enough "Ford history" for me to buy into it...yet. The fact that RPM merged with Yates will help me get over it. haha.

Those are some of my first thought too. Petty bleeds Mopar blood. Why o why spend all this time combining the name with a mustang edition. IIRC he finished his career with pontiac. Interesting lookin s550s but new gen Petty chargers/challengers would've really clicked with the senior mopar community .

Good to hear the King editions from Petty Garage are selling well. Really nice the Petty Garage Mustangs can be purchased from any Ford dealer. The 825 Horsepower King Edition could be a great alternative to GT350R without the allocation hassle.

Richard Petty King Edition Details

I saw on the Homepage the article about this new 2017 Richard Petty Silver King Edition that is coming out with a very limited amount of them to be made. The article said "The top performance models will be the 2017 King Edition and 2017 Premier Edition Mustangs with the former featuring 670-horsepower and the top of the line Premier Edition producing up to 825-horsepower." I like the horsepower ratings but want more info. related to how someone can get one and the cost. Usually if your not tight with someone in Ford your chances are slim to none. Anyone out there have any contacts that could provide this information ?

The point is that the Petty cars are big money new and not worth much used. Look at the resale of Roush or Saleen cars, not very good.

Shelby's are the only premium Mustangs that hold their value.

Maybe the point is buying a car for its performance and not for what you think you'll get for it when you sell it?

There's a 2015 or 2016 light blue/dark blue stage 2 Petty Mustang for sale near me at Keller Bros Ford for $99,000. Supposedly #3 of 43. Yeah, . . . . .not feeling it.
