forum having issues displaying images from imgur

been using imgur for my pics since the day I joined here. All of the sudden last two days the forum will not display them and the links and tags are perfect.

sometimes they stay up for a couple of hrs then they have the broken image icon that appears.

example. my entire build thread isn't showing images http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53143 everything I post using imgur has been flawless except last couple of days.

I've noticed other members having the broken image icon in posts as well.

Does imgur allow hot linking? There are some sites who don't, in order to save bandwidth.

Just tried to post and noticed the same thing. Could be that M6G is blocking it somehow?! Does any body know if another easy way to embed images?

I just used tinypic.com for a post. seemed to work.

This is an issue on IMGUR's side since we have not blocked them nor made any changes to prevent hotlinking.

They are able to block specific sites from doing so if they feel their ToS has been violated. They make the decision unilaterally without notice so that would be my guess. Some major sites such as eBay have been blocked from hotlinking their images. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do.

We always recommend uploading directly to the forum's servers to prevent issues like this from happening. If for some reason you prefer not to, there are other image hosting websites. Just know they can disable your hotlinked images at any time.

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately that forum has been blocked from hotlinking due to abuse of Imgur's terms of service (http://imgur.com/tos). Imgur's ToS prohibits using Imgur as a content delivery network, which means that website elements such as buttons, banners, avatars, frames, image libraries, etc. cannot be hosted on Imgur and served up as elements of other sites. Imgur's intended use is not as a CDN, but rather as a platform to upload, share and browse entertaining images, which is why using it to serve website elements or image libraries is not allowed.

If you'd like to be unblocked, please take measures to undo the functionality that caused the terms of service breach, at which point we'd be happy to review. One way to do that is to use Imgur's embed unit instead of hotlinking. To use that, choose "post options" --> "embed post" and copy the URL.

Please let me know if you have any other questions; I'd be happy to help.

I agree! I use tinypic too! and just copy the code for forums and paste it on here

can we get 6g back on the good list... my build thread is completely destroyed and any other images I have ever posted in my 6500+ post career. redoing all my pictures is a master undertaking and relinking and editing major threads....especially threads that had me featured on the site.

Every time someone posted pics hosted by imgur it took FOREVER for the images/page to load, I'm browsing on Chrome on Android (Samsung Galaxy S7)

I still use imgur on all of the other forums I'm on, so I'm not sure what m6g is doing differently. It would seem some communication between the admins and imgur could get this straightened out. Expecting users to update thousands and thousands of posts is a bit crazy.

I'm guessing someone was using imgur for like a signature image maybe? maybe thats against their rules?

I've put in a request to imgur to review the site. Hopefully they can clarify what exactly has violated their ToS since it is a mystery to me. None of the site elements are hosted on their servers.

This is why for the Fast List Leaderboards we require timeslips to be uploaded directly to the Mustang6G servers. We have zero control over images hosted elsewhere and you hotlink at your own risk.

For what it's worth, we have a similar issue on a UK forum I Moderate. Fortunately, only a handful of people were using Imgur, and they now use Photobucket instead. I must admit, the thought we'd violated their ToS hadn't even crossed my mind and, like M6G, we don't host any site elements with them. They've never contacted us, either!
