Hello,
I just registered in the forum and wanted to share my ownership experience with the GT350.
I am a current owner of a Boss 302 (which is having its MT82 transmission rebuilt as we speak since it decided to go lightweight and remove the 3-4 gears)
I come from a background of BMWs and Porsches (own some still) but there is something special about switching on a 5.2 liter V8 and hearing it crack in the morning
I decided to buy the car while on vacation in California in December 2015, and laughed at the ADMs in there. Of course, being in California meant that I was speaking to people who could charge what they want and still get away with it. So, while frustrated from calling all dealers in the US and trying to find a car to take home, I ended up calling my local dealer and paying a deposit for an Avalanche Grey GT350.
Then, the wait began. It was supposed to arrive in March, then April then May. Until, one day I got a call saying that the car is here (apparently they used a stealth ship that no one knew about and it just arrived!)
Anyhow,
I went to see it and switched it on, then couldn't wait to take it home right then.
The only way they bring the car in here is with the track pack, so I was lucky.
The car has been fantastic and sounds awesome, especially with the exhaust in sport. Raspy, but delicious and not E46 M3 like.
GT350 compared to Boss 302
Low down torque is where the Boss wins for daily driving. To solve this, just drive the GT350 above 3500 rpm, where it feels very elastic and makes you want to attack the RPM all the way to redline (however, this car will be in illegal speeds in all gear ratios but 1st!!!)
Sound of the Boss is typical V8 (I have the baffles out) but it has nice music to it which is addictive and deep compared to the GT350
GT350 is very special in terms of noise and the higher you rev it the better it gets.
I tried to be slow in break in, but I had to make it in time for the last track day of the season (in here, we are already in the 40 degrees celsius in terms of weather. Got it to the track with almost 1550 kms.
Will post some videos later from the track event in Yas Marina Circuit
The car performed great at the track and was more up to task to chase down Porsches and Z06s. The handling and front end grip are amazing in this car. My only gripe was the oil temperature which climbed all the way to 148C after a hard 20 minutes.
Most cars were flashing their lights with cool down laps but I was going until I hit a small limiter at 6k rpm. Guess it was limp mode, I went for one lap cooling , then hit it again with no issues so it performs. The temperature that night was around 38 degrees celsius, this is why we should wait for winter to drive again on track.
I also race in the local TRD Cup, which is a single make series using the GT86 cars, but our season goes from end of October till Mid April, where it just gets to the end of acceptable in terms of weather for racing.
Here are a few pics of my GT350
Will try to upload my videos asap.
