2016 Model Year Mustang GT to Receive Hood Vent Turn Signals, a Nod to Car's Heritage, New Packaging OptionsDEARBORN, Mich., May 12, 2015 – For the 2016 model year, Mustang fastback and convertible welcome the return of the iconic California Special Package and Pony Package - two iconic Mustang trim levels made popular in the 1960s. Several other new options, including new stripes and wheels, allow owners to make their pony car as individual as they are.

Fans have been clamoring for the return of hood vent-integrated turn signals for years, and in a nod to heritage Ford is honoring the request, bringing back the popular feature as standard equipment for owners of the 2016 Mustang GT. First offered on the 1967 Mustang, secondary indicators in the hood vents would come to represent an iconic piece of pony car DNA. Now, this segment-exclusive feature will serve as an additional "heads-up" for Mustang GT drivers.

"Mustang enthusiasts are not shy about telling us what they want," said Melanie Banker, Mustang marketing manager, "and we're constantly exploring ideas together with our engineering team to develop new features we know our customers will love. These new hood vent indicators for the GT model are a perfect example of us communicating customer feedback to Mustang engineers and the team responding with an exclusive new feature for owners of the 2016 Mustang GT."

New stripes, wheels, trims allow for greater personalization
Several new packages and options will be available for 2016 Mustang GT and Mustang EcoBoost® when the cars arrive in dealerships in the third quarter of 2015. Returning to the sixth-generation Mustang are over-the-top racing stripes direct from the factory. Offered in black or silver, the stripes are available on most color and trim packages.

Last seen on the Boss 302, a painted black roof option is now available for the EcoBoost-equipped Mustang and Mustang GT.

Exclusive to Mustang EcoBoost Premium is a fresh take on the Pony Package. With unique 19- inch polished aluminum wheels, tri-bar pony logo on the grille, side stripe and chrome window surround, the fastback Mustang with Pony Package is sure to stand out from the crowd when it arrives in late 2015.

For customers after a stealthier look, Mustang GT will offer a Black Accent Package this fall.
Fastback and convertible Mustang GT models with this package will showcase special 19-inch black-painted alloy wheels, black decklid spoiler, dark taillamp trim, and 5.0 and pony logos in black.

Mustang GT Premium owners can order the California Special Package with a host of features including:Mustang drop-top aims for tip-top performance
Now, just like owners of the fastback model, customers of Mustang GT convertible equipped with manual transmission can order a Performance Package for 2016. Featuring increased structural bracing, as well as revised suspension components, brakes, wheels and tires, Mustang GT convertible equipped with Performance Package will be a force to be reckoned with – both on back roads and at the track. Features include:"Ford Mustang GT fastback with Performance Package has been very popular," said Banker.

PP for gt vert?

As long as it's not 100 HP, HUD, or key pad for the exterior I'll be happy with my 15

Would have liked the "yellow jacket" seats on my TY this year. Will have to keep a look out to see if any ever go up for sale. Maybe an excuse for "yellow jacket" Recaros down the road some day.

Black painted roof on a TY with yellow jacket interior...I'm intrigued.

Interested to see what the CS looks like. Always liked the spoiler on the last edition of that.

I wonder if Artic Grey will be avail?

It seems all of the '16 changes are already confirmed.

The 4 options in OP, and the new color is "tuxedo black" instead of black per someone found a '16 color brochure at their dealership. No one knows what the color difference is.

No engine or other performance changes, no PP on other models (AT or vert)

Sync 3 if you want it (extra $) but current Sync is still available too; we already knew this.

I highly doubt there are any more changes considering ordering starts in 40 days.

I'm really hoping for a HUD option for the '16s. I'll be buying a 2016 for Sync 3 anyway but HUD would just be icing.

Wonder what the California special is going to look like?

I'm still confused as to why they won't offer it as an option for the AT? They can do it for the Ecoboost but not the GT? Maybe I missed the explanation somewhere???

There hasn't been much more of an explanation beyond they did it for '15 to keep the LE models exclusive since they can have an auto with all the PP equipment, and there was also the single LE convertible with the PP equipment.

So we know it all fits, its just a matter of them offering it now (if they don't I really won't understand why), since details are still trickling out about the '16 I definitely have all my fingers crossed.

There really is no explanation. The 50th anniversary edition is the only way to have gotten a GT auto with PP. Myself and many others are holding out for a PP and auto combination. The interesting thing is that for the S197 generation, the 11/12 did not offer a similar package for the autos (track package I believe is what it was called), but was introduced for the 13/14 model year. I hope we don't have to wait until 2017 for a PP/auto combo.

I had the Tuxedo Black on My 2013 SHO. Many people think it has Metallic flaks in it, but it is glass and when the sun hits it the color really pops off the car. I received many compliments on it.
