Today's launch of the Focus RS has got me thinking...........back in the 70's, two of our finest Capri variants were the RS2600 and then the RS3100, powered by lusty V6 engines.

Whilst the Ecoboost 2.3 is a worthy engine in the Mustang, it still doesn't ring my bell. The only reason I had a 4-cylinder (1.6!!) Capri was because, at the time, I couldn't afford to insure the V6 2.8. The only Mustang I currently want is a V8 GT. What might make me think twice about a GT would be something between the two....with 6 cylinders. But not a base spec V6 like you guys are offered in the US, I want a 6-cylinder that's been tuned to offer a serious sporting ride, in the vein of all the other fine RS models that have gone before. Think of it as perhaps a GT350-lite. That same track focus, albeit not as extreme.

So, Ford, if you're reading this.........give us (not just Europe, but the world) an RS2700 Mustang.

2.7 Ecoboost V6
375 hp / 375lb/ft
6 speed manual or 10-speed auto
Magneride suspension option
Recaro seats

The inspiration

Because the Focus is the new Escort.........albeit the Escort had more in common with the Mustang (longitudinal engine, RWD).

Find me a good Mk1 Escort to import from over there, I'll build an Ecoboost Mk1.

Problem is, any old RWD Ford is now silly money in Europe, especially 2 door models. Even 4-door Escort saloons are expensive now.

Anyway, I want a new RS2700 Mustang :p

Good luck on that! Even LHD Mk.1 Escorts sourced on Ebay UK is going for big money:$7,500.00-$15,000.00 with the original engines. Going to the continent to find a LHD one, would be even more difficult.

BTW, the Mk.1 is one of my most favorite body styles of all time. A 2.3 Ecoboost would only make it better, as it only weight @1900 lbs.

I would take an ecoboost 6 any day over the V8...which is why Ford will never do it. Nobody would buy the V8 since the ecoboost 6 would outperform it with just simple bolt ons.

And this is coming from a guy that has had 2 supercharged V8's :Dhttp://www.mustang6g.com//www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/
I wouldnt say nobody. I will buy a v8 til the day i die. I love the sound. It could be the slowest thing on the road, but i would still just love the sound.

Agreed, it would take something very, very special to stop me buying a V8. But I do think a sporting 2.7 Ecoboost would be a great addition to the range.

:)

An Eco 6 with just a tune would likely kill a stock V8. The current one with a tune is putting down the same torque numbers

Turbo stinks. That's about it for me. I dont care if its a 4 or a 6 cylinder 'eco'boost, I would never ever give up a naturally aspirated V8 for one of those things. The driving feel is all wrong. They feel like they struggle all the time. They lag, you dont get instantaneous response when you hit the gas. Just hell no all the way around. The only reason these are being used now is simple: CAFE and government regs.

You have never driven a bmw 335i have you? Twin turbo(or twin scroll turbo depending on n55 or n54) seat of the pants they feel almost as fast as the mustang gt, and their acceleration is soo effortless with no lag. Mine none stock was a 5.1, 13.5 car with 4 doors, no mods and a baby seat and heavy aftermarket rims. Now the eb mustang felt underpowered, the engine IMO was underpowered and too high strung for the mustang. A 2.7eb I would be in favor of and likely would have ordered. With a tune, dp, exhaust, it would have been 430 plus hp with more torque and lighter than the gt.

I'd rather the 400hp 3.5L going into the Raptor.
