Today's launch of the Focus RS has got me thinking...........back in the 70's, two of our finest Capri variants were the RS2600 and then the RS3100, powered by lusty V6 engines.
Whilst the Ecoboost 2.3 is a worthy engine in the Mustang, it still doesn't ring my bell. The only reason I had a 4-cylinder (1.6!!) Capri was because, at the time, I couldn't afford to insure the V6 2.8. The only Mustang I currently want is a V8 GT. What might make me think twice about a GT would be something between the two....with 6 cylinders. But not a base spec V6 like you guys are offered in the US, I want a 6-cylinder that's been tuned to offer a serious sporting ride, in the vein of all the other fine RS models that have gone before. Think of it as perhaps a GT350-lite. That same track focus, albeit not as extreme.
So, Ford, if you're reading this.........give us (not just Europe, but the world) an RS2700 Mustang.
2.7 Ecoboost V6
375 hp / 375lb/ft
6 speed manual or 10-speed auto
Magneride suspension option
Recaro seats
