I went to the Barrett-Jackson auction today with 2 goals in mind. One was to see the final 2015 LE Mustang go up for auction, and the other was to see a 2015 for the first time in the metal. I'd been deciding between this car and the Corvette Stingray for quite awhile and wanted to reserve my final decision until I had actually seen the Mustang in person. I got a pretty nice seat for the event and snapped a bunch of pics using the zoom, most came out blurry and next to useless. About 4 were of decent enough quality to post and will be part of the posted photos below.
After the auction I went to the holding area where the cars are kept before and after they are auctioned. The LE was nowhere to be found. I asked everyone I could find that had an official badge on, no one knew anything. Finally I got lucky with a guy who said "just a minute, I know who to ask." He used a radio to page another guy and the other guy responded that they took it outside to the Ride 'N Drive area outside in the parking lot. Not feeling too confident I took the long walk outside to the parking lot, I figured this is my only chance, why not? When I got out there the LE was nowhere to be found and my wife was growing more than a little impatient after 7 hours of walking around the event. I told her to grab a seat while I walked the entire parking lot just to be sure. I was about to give up when I noticed a white front end peeking out at the far end of the parking lot behind a Ford 18 wheel rig. Could this be the LE? I ran over and MIRACLE! There it was sitting all alone next to a fence, not a soul around. Some of you might have noticed what looks like damage to the left rear bumper, it was in fact a chip in the paint. Keep in mind that this was not the actual car the winning bidder receives. They get the actual last built LE in their choice of Wimbledon White or Kona Blue and they can outfit it as a pace car as well if desired.
In the end the Mustang is a VERY nice car, it's just not for me. I ended up liking the interior more than the exterior, which is exactly the opposite of what I expected. I am sure they will sell tons of these, but unfortunately not one to me. So I leave you with these images as my final gesture of goodwill to the community. I know some of you guys will appreciate these more than I ever could. Enjoy!
