This has been on the Ford site since the 2014 GT500. You can also find a 2017 Boss 302 in the code too (search for "site:ford.com 2017 boss 302"). There was another thread last year about the same thing when the 2016 model was new, since you could find the "2016 GT500" at the time.

On the deeper 2017 GT500 pages (specs page, safety page, etc.), the details are the same as the 2014 GT500, and still references the 2014 model year (albeit, the page is titled as 2017 GT500). The same is true for the 2017 Boss 302 pages, which has 2013 Boss 302 references with a 2017 page title.

Information Accidently Released on the 2017 Mustang GT500

Did Google Just Give Away the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500?

Do us a favor, right now: Open a new browser window (it’s very important to us that you keep this one open, FWIW), type “gt500” into Google, and hit return. Assuming Ford hasn’t already covered its tracks, one of the first results should read “2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 | The Cobra of Performance Cars …”

Yup, you read that right. 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. As in, a car that Ford hasn’t officially announced yet.

It’s been more less an open secret that Ford is hard at work on a new Shelby GT500; prototypes wearing varying amounts of camouflage have been spotted multiple times in the wild over the last year But most of the motoring world was operating under the assumption that the new GT500 would be a 2018 model year vehicle, not a 2017 model. That model year suggests the new car will be arriving fairly soon...which we’ll touch more on in a second.

Clicking on the link itself simply redirects users to the basic Mustang info page on the Ford website. If we had to guess—and we don’t, but we get a kick out of it, so what the hey—we’d hypothesize that Ford has built a new site for the upcoming Shelby and hidden it away so that it can’t be seen by public eyes—but the little “spiders” Google uses to find website tickled the hyperlink out of Ford’s servers anyway.

Diving into the page’s source code reveals a couple other potential details about the car—most intriguingly, a potential clue about its engine. Tucked away amongst the keywords Ford has chosen to attach to the page is the phrase “Shelby GT500 5.8L V8 engine.” Now, Ford fanatics who’ve been taking their gingko biloba will recall that the previous Ford-made GT500 also used a 5.8-liter supercharged V-8, which, much like the first atomic bomb, was code-named “Trinity.” Which seems like an apt comparison, considering it made a stunning (for 2011) 661 horsepower and 631 lb.-ft. Of torque. Most recent reports have suggested the new GT500 would use a turbocharged motor, either based on the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter engine or the GT350’s angry 5.2-liter V-8; however, assuming this chunk of code isn’t just a placeholder, it suggests Ford may be bringing the Trinity back to open a can of whoop-ass on the Hellcat. (No matter the engine, we fully expect the new Ford to at least match the Mopar’s 707 horsepower output, if not beat it by a few ponies for good measure.)

Rumors have been quietly percolating that Ford may have some sort of new Mustang to reveal at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month. Considering this latest Google result...it seems pretty damn likely that the Blue Oval will be showing off one stupidly powerful Shelby.
So basically the 2014 GT500 powertrain with a little more power.

I can't believe this was actually making news...
I know, it's frustrating!

The same website also claimed about some new spy shots that were on the SEMA website. You can imagine my disappointment when they were the same spyshots from last Friday :frusty:

January's reveal (of the Ecoboost and GT models) can't some soon enough :headbonk:

Couple of things can be said... so far we've seen two race version Mustangs this year and one is using the 350 front clip with a CPC powerplant. The 2018 Mustang order guide has a "Shelby" option with the retained 920/921 group packages...

Something smells GT500.............

Oh, absolutely! And those two racers point to cross plane cranks being more likely for the GT500 (and, I'm still hoping, a Mach 1 in N/A form).

BUT, there's no way the GT500 will be a '17MY. I still think the only '18MY we'll see at Detroit will be the Ecoboost and GT. I can possible see GT500 being a late entry for the '18MY or, more likely, a '19MY.

if Ford wanted to repeat history, the GT500 should come out in the 2017 model year, or at least do a limited production run of 2017 GT500s like they did with the GT350 for the 2015 model year

Like that saying "what you fear you create" I think these are being released by guys with a Camaro in the garage that are having bad dreams about the possibility of a 5.2L CPC TT Mustang coming up beside them  It doesn't effect me one bit aside that I hope they do release a GT500 and kill the GT350 since I just took delivery of mine  I won't be in the market for one anyways. The GT350 is more than enough for me and I love the car!

That shadow black w/blue stripes will be nice. I can barely afford my 5.0 coyote so I don't think about 500's or 350's. Semi-retired and enjoying the Coyote Howler life. On the coastal bend twisty's, enjoy!
