It's about fast and performance, not futuristic, space age, or any of that.

I got news for you, the Mustang is a blast from the past et al. Every redesign has had some homage or nostalgic edge to the past in one way or another. It's just that simple - period.

If you don't do this, then you might as well remove the "Mustang" or "Mach 1" name.
Lol

It doesn't have to be about space age.

But it doesn't have to be some old nostalgia trip either.

As far as your "all mustangs took their cue from "teh oldness," 1987-1993 would strongly disagree with you.

And no one ever wanted a Prob front wheel drive, 4 or 6 cylinder to replace the mustang.

That kind of foolishness isn't what we are talking about here.

The probe wasn't Mustang dna.

And Misysng DNA doesn't equal OLD anymore than your grandkids with your DNA. Sometimes the grandkids look like the grandparents and sometimes not.

We've seen enough retro. We had 10 years of it.

And now we still have a strong influence. The current s550 design itself has enough retro influence. We dont need even more. Especially with the Mach 1.

Seriously, just admit nostalgia is your own personal preference. But don't try to say that "old" equates to "Mustang" or "Mach 1" and that if it isn't oldified, then it can't carry the name. That's just ridiculous. Again, the 187-1993 examples and even the New Edge which barely had any old cues (save for a nice modern for its time interpretation of the double jump dash and c scoops) disagree with you. The 87-93 and new edge were examples of a modern and future forward looking car. And they carried the "Mustang" and "Mach 1" names quite well. That Mach 1 did add some nostalgia as the market was ripening for it right before the dedicated entirely retro generation hit for the next decade.

This market isn't that market. And people are getting burned out on the whole retro thing.

So the Mustang needs to stay fresh. Innovate new things. Don't just also on some old stuff and hope everyone thinks it's cool.

The gt350 borrows nothing from the old car. And the updated cobra badge is pretty dang sweet. Perfect design for modern times. Even the gt350 lettering has been highly modernized. The retro cues in the gt350 are inherent to the s550 design which is more than enough.

From there, the thing takes on a life of its own in a fresh, modern, new way without alienating people.

That's the kind of thing we should see in a Mach 1.

In 1969, body code 63c got you a mach1 version of the sportroof 63a. It included an appearance package both inside and out, as well as some suspension upgrades, which could be had on 63a also. You could get a variety of engines and transmissions with either. Ask me how I know...
I find it amusing how the mach1 'concept' has mutated over the years into some of what I've read here. Mach1, the speed of sound, breaking the sound barrier...it was a sales gimmick that proved very successful indeed.
I would replace my classic mach1 with a modern version in a heartbeat if it were available.

I'm no artist, I admit that but I'm hearing descriptions of what should or shouldn't be in a S550 Mach 1 so is there anyone who could make some mock ups or renderings of what they think it should look like?

A GT350 style hood that removes the "fusion" type line that goes from the upper corner of the grill all the way to the mirror mount.

You know...

That style line that raises the hood over 2 inches than it needs to be while obscurring the sight line of the fenders. The thing they did so well on the GT350 by lowering the hood so that there is a depression down from the top of the fender...

Yeah. Ditch that stupid line that the 2015 mustang shares with the stupid Fusion.

Only other maker out there that has worked on this area of the car to remove that line is Saleen with their Black Label.

It changes the look of the car while improving forward visibility from the driver's seat.

I think the Mach 1 should be a Mustang equivalent of the Corvette Grand Sport. The Corvette Grand Sport (C7 version due for 2017) is a very cost effective track oriented car that takes a lot of the ZR1 (now Z06) parts without driving the cost up too much.

So imagine a GT350 light, without all the limited production dealer markup issues. Given the new Camaro is beating the current GT PP performance wise, and a more track oriented 1LE & ZL1 are due soon, Ford needs to add some more muscle to its inventory.

Yes some of the classic inspired graphics packages look nice, and a real shaker hood would be neat. But I want a well priced Camaro killer first, with that other stuff being secondary.

Here is my 2015 mach1 rendering. Still have more to do. Changing spoiler to GT500 next week along with side exit exhaust being completed. Still have to get twist lock hood pins and rear window louvers.
