I am after some advice on the affect of modifications on your insurance. I have three planned mods as soon as the car arrives:
1. Exhaust (Axle Backs)
2. Suspension (Springs)
3. BMR CB005 Sub frame Lock out.

I have told the insurance company and it has only added around £40 pa to the insurance (quoted £340 PA). That's all great no issues at all, I was debating whether it was worth telling them for the above mods but am glad I did.

However, as I intend to make some more changes as time goes on, what mods hit insurance the most? I am guessing any tune or power boost, if so by how much? I would love to add some power but if it throws the insurance into the too difficult to quote area it will become a pain. Any advice is welcome.

The stupid mods hit it the hardest (Things that are boy-racerish), or the ones that add huge power gains (LT headers, decatting, Superchargers, nonstock turbos etc etc)

How long is a piece of a string?

I gave up after phoning 3 big companies that wouldn't touch a remapped car and ended up accepting my current company's renewal of an extra £80-odd for the remap (over the random increase for the second year).

Some companies won't touch a tuned car if the power increase is too much on it's own, others won't insure if the percentage increase from the map alone is too much etc etc...

In short; insurance companies=robbing fuckers.

May I ask, what insurance company are you getting quoted from? Standard car I am looking at £215, with axle back exhaust and stripes I have been quoted at £664 by A Plan. They have normally been good as gold but for those tiny mods it seems ridiculous.

I got the quote from LV=, £325:85 with the mods ticked (suspension and exhaust). Apparently adding parking sensors as a mod will help drop the quote, but not worth it if no other mods. I ran it through comparethemarket but LV came up the best.

The trouble only really starts when you remap the engine. Then you're down to only about two insurers who will cover it. Classicline and Adrian Flux were both quoting me Equity Red Star policies (which do cover my Lund tune). But in the end I reluctantly decided against Classicline as their policy didn't attract No Claims Discount years. So the 10 I had built up would just end up expiring in a couple of years and then I would be stuck with Classicline forever. oh and they didn't cover you for driving others cars either, in case that matters to you.

Gooner's car is an import and insured as such and therefore completely irrelevant.
Not completely irrelevant. Classicline do insure domestic UK S550s as "modern classics"

Just insured ours with Admiral, sensible for mods planned, exhaust, lowering, spoiler and suspension mods added about £40 as above, just over £400 but its a convertible so probably a bit of a premium over the FB

I know I'm an old man, (53), but nevertheless I am currently with Esure on my modified Toyota GT86. They quoted something like £7 extra for the Tein coilovers, 18 x 9 wheels and Conti sports. Total is under £200.

They have also quoted me £210 for the Mustang in stock form.. I will be asking about mods as soon as the car arrives. (June 10th). Big shock with E sure was the £199 quote for the RS!!

Gooner's car is an import and insured as such and therefore completely irrelevant, plus he thinks you need specialist insurance to take a mate to his own wedding, so make of that what you will.
shut up you tart:D
Yes mine is a import (which only you seem to have a issue with)
But if you don't ask, you don't know do you?
As for the Weddings, WTF are you talking about,
Only time insurance is needed is when the people are strangers, my 1st wedding was my mates, when I did not even know about Frazer.
Had a very interesting one 2 years back, this couple wanted to go from their house to the Airport, now that would have been classed as a Taxi, and no insurance would give you cover for that.
Also the school Prom, (are we turning into the US) now insurance for that is very tough, as insurances don't like you doing it, and again can be classed as a Taxi, only way round that, is to "know the person" and not get any money for the service

I won't say shocked but I'd be very surprised if an exhaust, lowering springs and spacers don't put the price up on a UK car.
what's the difference?
with a UK or a import?
Are my parts from Modurstang different from other parts from Modurstang? And I would think it would be easier and quicker to get parts for the UK cars?
Classicline, did not even ask me if it was a import or not,
and they are the Best insurance i have EVER dealt with
