I was at the grocery store and a BMW SUV caught my eye. It was an X5. The rotors and brakes alone looked insane....massive!! Then I get home and see that the $72k version actually has 10 more horsepower than the current generation Mustang GT.

Despite being 2-3 times the price of a Mustang GT, just curious how the X5 compares in a straight line as well as around turns and such?

Thanks

Evidenced by the fact that one is a car and the other is an SUV. My question was about which is faster and better driving.

Since I've never seen an X5 at the drag strip. I'd google the stats if I was you. Obviously the Mustang will out handle a 5000 pound SUV.

I would like to own an srt8 Grand Cherokee and supercharge it. 8 speed auto,4wd, and 700 hp would be lovely.

I've witnessed the X5 Launch in person at the wannagofast 1/2 mile shootout. I can tell
You that it's pretty nasty for an SUV. Don't know if it had mods but it was spanking the jeep srt8 off the line every time.

Stock M5 is about egual to SRT Cherokee (60mph/quarter mile)

Both the X5 or the SRT GC will beat a 5.0 Stang off the line because of AWD. Both will arrive at 60 mph at about the same time as the 5.0. The 5.0 catches up and beats both SUV's in the 1/4 mile.

The stock 2015 X5M gets to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds (approx. 3.8 sec). Quarter mile time is advertised at 12.2. 2017 X5M's may be slightly faster.

The stock 2014 SRT Jeep GC gets to 60 mph in 4.5 sec./Qtr. Mile 13.0.

The 2017 JC Trailhawk will have the Hellcat motor and AWD. It will probably be the fastest SUV on the planet, just as the Hellcat Chargers are the fastest 4 door sedans on the planet.

Maintenance money pits. My neighbor has one and I see the BMW loaner car more often than I see their SUV. Naturally, because they have a BMW, they are a-holes... so I don't talk to them to learn more.

Do you really have to ask how a 5000lb SUV is going to handle in comparison to a 3700lb car? My 3 year old can answer that question.

As far as straight line acceleration, it would be pretty simple to google the specs of each car and see the stats for 0-60, 0-100 and quarter mile.

I have a 2017 X6M, same engine as the X5M, just a little lighter. I've went 11.7 bone stock in it.

It sounds like you saw an X5 5.0i. I raced a guy with the X6 version (same thing, just a funky roofline) and put a few car lengths on him from a 2nd gear roll. He wasn't THAT far behind though and that surprised me. I looked it up later and apparently they run mid to low 13s, which makes sense given that my car was stock at the time save for exhaust and I'm not a great driver.

You realize BMW stands for Broke My Wallet right? Most German cars are money pits. Maintenance costs alone should deter you.
