Ok since I have been going back and forth regarding purchasing a 2017 Ford Mustang GT or a 2018. I thought it would be a nice thread topic for must have mods for a 2017 Ford Mustang GT if I have to go that route. So far here is my list. Mind you they have to be reasonable otherwise I would spend just as much or more than if I purchased a 2018 Ford Mustang GT - at that point it would make no sense to purchase a 2017. Seeing that the 2017's will be discounted in the year adding a few items will bring a 2017 closer to what most people think will be the power level of a 2018. Yes I know the HP / TQ curves are going to be a heck of a lot better with higher compression and direct injection / port injection setup and the 10 speed auto is a plus. But here we go ....

On the one hand, it might be that by the time the 17s are discounted, you may not be able to get the combo you want. Who knows?
On the other hand, first year jitters with the new tranny and engine for the 18s?
A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush...

The silver PP wheels seem to not be in much demand, aftermarket sites offer them for less than half what they want for the black ones. Might also be hard to find a car with them, don't think they're very popular. Of course it may be moot if you are going to put aftermarket wheels and tires on later anyway. PP takeoff wheels of any color don't seem to draw much interest from what I have seen.

Personally, I would wait for the '18, though I don't like the 18 front end as much as the existing cars, I think it's lame, to be honest. But the new engine is going to make more power and there's a lot of other decent upgrades on it. Then again, the '20 may be a whole new car, maybe finally shedding some weight? But maybe no big ol' honkin' 'Murican V8 power? Decisions, decisions.

I had to order mine to get the silver wheels

Since they are inexpensive, I thought about buying another set so I can have a squared smaller winter set and a squared wider set for summer.

I haven't found an aftermarket set of rims that I absolutely have to have and this seems like a good way to get a cheap squared setup.

I ordered my '17 because it's more fun to drive than it is to dream about what I could be driving next summer. I say get the 2017 so you can enjoy something now, then you can trade it in for a 2019-2020 if you want. Then eventually you get the upgrades you are wanting and the bugs are worked out of all the new stuff. Best part is you get to enjoy a car now. Who knows, by the time you mod the '17, maybe you don't even want the new one.

Need to lower it.
Isn't already lowered from factory? Heck I remember lowering my 2005 Ford Mustang GT and I can tell you a regretted it as a daily driver. Especially. here in SFLA where the roads suck ! and every 20 ft has a pothole somewhere. :frusty:

GT350 Conversion ..

Nah ! Did a 2005 Ford Mustang GT to GT500 conversion years ago. Came out pretty good. However going with the sleeper instead of the poser this time around.
Remove all the badges and make everyone think its a 4 banger eco stang.

You can lower it and improve ride quality with the right choice parts. BMR SP089/SP082 springs and something like the Steeda Pro-Action fixed dampers will actually ride AND handle better than stock PP, while dropping the car 7/8" in the front and 1/2" in the back.
