Have a chance to get a set of GT Axles (15-17 same parts #'s) for basically free - low miles as well. Figure they have to be stronger than the V6 axles - the EB and V6 use the same. The GT are different. Rear carriers (except of course for Torsion) are interchangeable so I'm thinking axles would be too.

Anyone else done this?

Be nice to have a 'spare' set sitting around for cheap.

The carrier is either iron or aluminum depending on the transmission all models. The iron is known to be stronger. Iron is mated to the manuals.
If you have the 3.7 go for the 3.55 it wakes up the car.

I already have a Ford Motorsports 3.55 complete carrier in the garage. Will start install likely Monday. I'm talking about the AXLES - the halfshafts. I've got a chance to get a low mile set of GT shafts for dirt cheap. Figure they are likely stronger than V6 / EB axles.

May want to see if they are the same spline count also.

Well they are from a normal GT, not a torsion equipped GT - so they'd have to be the same spline at the rear differential, since differentials are interchangeable.

I misspoke. There is no difference in spline count except for (unless I'm reading the Ford parts catalog wrong) the GT350.

The question isn't spline count. The question is whether or not a CHEAP set of low mile take off GT halfshafts would be a worthy upgrade over the stock V6 halfshafts.

My guess is they are the same shaft.

Different part numbers. Need to get my hands on 'em and compare the two. i'm guessing Ford put a little bit more axle under the GT.
