Ok so this news sort of sucks. Maybe I will have to be a convert and pick up an auto. Just want to see reviews, tests and what the PP2 ends up being.

I wonder if the 15-17s transmissions crap out durring warranty period, if you would be able to have Ford replace it with the 18 transmission.

I know for me personally since Im boosted this transmission would be much better for me. I myself may switch from 3.73 to 3.31 because Im literally flying through the gears so fast I really wish it was a bit longer. Maybe an 18' transmission is the way to go instead and keep the 3.73

this is my thought. i have 3.55 gears and 1st and 2nd go so fast and im on a base phase 1 roush. i imagine once you get to 700+whp that becomes a shorter time span. not to mention you just blow the wheels off below 3rd gear on the street.

Yea man Im on 3.73 and 1-3 gear are barely usable tbh. 4th seems to be the sweet spot but I would like to use 3rd gear more lol.

is it possible to get the internal gears themselves and just modify your current mt82?

Sucks that the new MT82-D4 now has 4th gear as the 1:1 ratio. In the 15~17 manual, I liked that 5th was 1:1 which made it a close ratio 5-speed with one OD gear (6th) for gas mileage on the highway.

It's a tossup, but most likely not. The only time they would ever give you an 18 trans is if the 17MY unit is no longer made and they have absolutely 0 stock of it anywhere. But even then, they most likely would give you a reman one and it would be a tossup if it's a 17 or 18 MY unit.

If you're friendly with the dealer and the service department, you might be able to sway them into giving you a new 18+ unit, but it's at their discretion.

How does this alter the manual dyno numbers we have seen thus far? Haven't they been running the manual '18's in 5th?

Dyno would correct for the trans gearing. But unnecessary - they'll just dyno in 4th.

Depends on the dyno. Also, most of them were dynoing in 5th and not able to get a full run.

15-17 MT82 boosted guys - if you you keep the MT82 go with 3.31 rear.
I broke two MT82 and went TR6060 (which is heaven) then went to a 4.09 rear...what a combo. This is how Ford should have built them.

What made Ford change from 4.10 to 4.09 I missed when this happened.

I think it is actually 4.10...I think it's a marketing thing. US gear sold them for a while as 4.10's then FRPP came out and called them 4.09's (made by US Gear).
