I made a tutorial on dying the white stitching on the leather seats. The out come was exactly what I was looking for and hope you guys enjoy! If anyone else does this please post in this thread how it turned out! I would love to see others.

[ame]

Steps:

1. Pick up a fabric permanent dye marker of your choice. These can be found at most arts and craft stores. (micheals, hobby lobby, ect)

2. Clean the stitching (if needed)

3. follow the stitching around the car and be sure to move the marker both direction. this allows you to get both sides of the seem on the stitch.

4.clean the dye off the leather with a rag or your finger. it comes right off.

5. enjoy!

Whole process took me maybe 2-3 hours. The camera didn't pick up the color as well as it should. This is not hard just tedious...BUT totally worth it IMO.

I'm not sure if it's just the way the pictures were taken, but it looks like the dye stained the leather... does it come off completely?

Yes it comes completely off the leather. I took the pics shortly after doing it and did not remove all of the excess. It's easily done with a rag or with rubbing it off with your finger.

Very creative!

How's this holding up for you? Any color bleed at all?

Thought I'd share my dye job. Here are a few comparison pics during the process, and a few comparing the color to the Alcantara and red stitching Boots. The color is slightly darker than the gt350 steering wheel's red stitching, but overall looks good.

That looks great! The red goes so well with everything else in the car.

Anyone done this with cloth seats? I'm afraid if I mess up I will stain them around the seams.

I did the stitches on the side of my seats where there is cloth, and I just took it one stitch at a time pressing down on the middle of each stitch and let the ink wick into the thread. you can see it in my 2nd picture a few posts up. As long as your careful I don't think it would be a problem, though I can't say for certain on lighter colored cloth.

Do not do this
Hi stresstest
Any thought on why this should not be done?
Still awaiting car, and was thinking of doing this.

Regards
Paul

The cloth will probably absorb the dye and stain the cloth. Kind of like when you get cooking oil on your clothes. They become a different shade where the oil absorbs. I could be wrong.
