Just got 1 of the two mirror tap replacements and now this prong broke with much less force trying to jam it in there like the last one. I guess my only choice now is splicing...

You can do it!

I've been using these for years.
You might need to put a small pick in there to make a little room on the corner so you get it started past the metal terminal from the original wire.

I have used blendmount also. But I prefer these for detector mounting. You can mount it up high on the windshield and is harder for thieves to see. I dont know if they make for your detector though.

Yep, I got this working almost a year ago, haha. Someone just happened to revive the thread.

Has anyone with a 2017 had any luck with a mirrortap? I lemon-law'd my '15 and just got a '17 as a replacement, and the very same mirrortap I was using in the '15 doesn't fit in the '17 mirror harness.

Here we go again. A year later and I cannot for the life of me get this black prong in here. 17 GT350 this time around. Not quite sure if it's the same wiring diagram though but I'm assuming so... Guess I'll figure this out tomorrow.

Does anyone know of a better solution than trying to jam the prongs in? I know that some companies will ship wires with little connectors on the end that allows you to easily tap into another wire, but I'm not quite sure if I could find this locally.

Really would like to not spend 3-4 hours on this like I did last year and just get this working so I can move on to the next thing.

You could get a hardwire kit, run it under the headliner, stuff it down the passenger a pillar and down into the fuse box. Pretty simple and doesn't take long to do.

Do you know if any local stores would sell it or if it's just one of those things you'd find online? I know I could check this too, lol.

Thanks plc268. Before I go that route, is there any way to test the wires without having to cut a little bit of each wire? Able to stick something in the connector to see?

EDIT: So I think I'm plugging things up the right way but I have a feeling this radar detector requires more power or something.

Got everything working. Just had gotten shipped a broken radar detector by Escort. Almost looks like the damn thing was refurbished or something. Smh. Ended up having them send me a replacement that actually looked new and worked.

two questions on this older thread; do you guys have to disconnect the current wiring and plastic harness for that wiring to hard wire your RD and install the mirror tap?

i have the mirror tap and a blend mount in hand. there doesnt seem to be enough room for the blend mount to sit far enough back with the factory wires and harness as is. if that makes sense.

Mine worked fine with my escort 8500.
You may have to unplug the connector from the back of the mirror to make sure you get the wire tap under the metal of the connector.
