It's been a minute since I posted in here but I got a new toy. This was taken with the DJI Mavic Pro.
Random ass settings. 4.7mm f2.2 1/540 iso 100
Love the pic. Getting ready to buy a mavic myself.

Gotta start somewhere, first time using a DSLR, second time using Lightroom. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you

I just got bit by the photography bug. Just bought a nikon d5600 and the gopro for vacation last month. Been looking at getting some better glass for the dslr. I'm also dying to get a mavic pro to add to the arsenal. Why do I keep getting into these expensive hobbies.

The pics above were taken with a Hero4 Silver mounted with a suction cup mount on the rear haunch. First one is just a normal still post processed in lightroom. The second is an image taken from my drive home, the camera is in Night lapse mode taking 2 second exposures and post processed in lightroom.

A lot of reviews/articles say the Nikon d3000 series dslr's are great starter bang for the buck cameras. I was going to get the d3400 but they did away the accessory port for remote shutter and it lacked a time lapse features I wanted for Astro photography so I stepped up to the d5600.

Pick the camera body that fits your budget. Most of the improvements that go into a camera body are for speed like high frame rates and fast autofocus. Image quality comes mostly from the lens so start with a prime like a 35mm f1.8 if you are going to start out with basic photography. The 35mm focus length is great for car photography, family photos, street photography, and many more.

I'm partial to Nikon so you can start with the D3xxx or D5xxx for not a whole lot of money and grab the 35mm for about $200 on top of the camera body. If you wanted to splurge a tad you could grab the Sigma 35mm 1.4 or the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8(both about $800) and you'd be set for a while as those are amazing lenses even by pro standards.

D3400 $390

I'm saving up for one of those Sigmas myself and I'm damn excited. A good idea would be to rent both of them for a weekend to get a better idea of what kind of photographs you'll be taking the most of. Borrowlenses.com is having a sale right now all through summer at 15% off.
