WTF! Has anyone gotten their wrench from ford yet? Maybethe wrench is for this style filter? Do you just swap out the element in this new one?

I was thinking the same thing! Maybe the filter and wrench will be for this new style.

Honestly if this removes the torque requirement that seems to throw all the Ford techs for a loop then I'm all for it. :)

The original notice for the free filter wrench mentioned that it applies to cars built from 2/24/15 - 11/22/16.

Could be that they changed to the canister as of 11/23/16.

Can anyone with a nov 2016 build date confirm what kind of filter they have ? My 2017 has a sept '16 build and it is still using the spin on type.

More than likely the oil filter housing changed.

Unless there is some sort of adapter I don't see this style working on the metal oil filter cars.

So now we just need to know:

- Is it a general change for all GT350 & Rs as of a specific date
- is is definitely a canister with exchangeable filter element
- can pre specific date GT350 & Rs use this design?

Wow so ford is going to run two part number specs for the same model year ????

It's almost like they want the dealership - customer relationship to fail. Hardly any of their techs follow basic instructions now they expect them to care about which filter they will pull when doing the oil changes? Just great.

If I were to guess, both parts are interchangeable. Newer one can put on the older filter design and older one can put on the new style.

I'm thinking Ford is discontinuing the older filter design as they are sending out a recall for the filter wrench.

Good observation counselor  Or is the much discussed new filter and wrench a conversion kit???

No

If indeed they changed all 5.2s to the cannister style, most of us will have pre-cannister oil filters if production continues into the future... for posterity and provenance.
