Anyone else have this issue? I noticed there was rust marks coming from my wheel hub area behind the OEM center cap piece (like rusty water was flung everywhere), so I took it off and everyone inside is orange. This is only on the rear wheels and not on the fronts. I put some WD40 on a paper towel and it cleaned it up, but I'm worried that this is not good at all for the wheel. Wheels are MRR M350 gloss black.

How long have those wheels been on there?

Looks like Ford Service lubricated your hubs with cheez whiz. Probably too much water getting in there, like Optimum said, maybe from a pressure washer forcing water in there since wheels tend to get blasted to help remove grime/dust/road grease.

I'd clean that out ASAP, maybe hit it up with some fine-grade steel wool, then lightly grease in there and put your cap back on. Next time you wash, finish with whatever and then take the cap off and let it dry or blow it dry if you have a blower. Should take care of it.

I'd say don't use a pressure washer to clean around the center cap. But some oil or a grease coating in there should prevent this.

Now that I think about it, I bet its from the car wash I take it to that has a pressure washer for the wheels. I'll definitely take the caps off next time and maybe put some grease/lube in there to prevent the rust. Thanks for the tips guys!

The wheel wont go bad youll just have to clean it, its from water behind the caps like you said from the pressure wash.

SAME. I was wondering if I was the only one. I don't use a pressure washer either. I've been meaning to sand and paint that area.

Yep, hand wash and hit my 6GR's with a light rinse spray from the garden hose.
If the garden hose only gives light water checkthe psi, mine jets out like a fire hose thr damn thing will knock someone out one day.

good post, now I know what to do when my GT arrives. wheels off and a smear of copper grease on the face of the rotor that touches the back of the wheel and inside that hub. i always smear copper grease on these faces and the wheel can bond itself to the rotor face and copper grease will handle the high temp without burning away
