looks pretty cool, does anyone know if this works with smaller plates (in width) like our swiss plates (see below) or does it have to be the EU width?

In your opinion should I mount this on my car too?

In my opinion, with our smaller plates (Italy has small front plate too) the best mounting location is on the bumper and without bracket at all.

With the smaller plates I would also think about putting it on one side instead of in the middle but that is personal. We can have the small one too but at annual control it needs to be the same size as the back so then the Sto is a good solution.

I thought about putting on one side like most (if not all) Alfa Romeo around here, but then I saw a picture of someone with that setup and was not so sure about that :)

Just measured one for you. The standard bracket for the EU plates measures 45cm in length and 8,5cm in width in the middle. I'm gonna bet your plate is shorter?

What I personally like for the shorter plates is like kapiteinlangzaam did, and make a US style plate of your license plate and use the US Sto'N'Sho.

I know someone here who bought his car from the same ford garage I did and the same salesperson. They installed mine in the middle and him on the side. I must say on the side is not really pretty and both did not understand why the garage did it like since I was the first client delivered...

This is indeed my preferred solution.

You could even install a std. EU sized plate to the US bracket if you really wanted to.

It can be seen quite clearly in this pic:
