Hi there

Which is better for my 2015 GT PP 5.0 Coyote, FL-500S or FRPP FL-820?

I know the FL500S has a lower bypass pressure than the FL820 and that the FL820 also has larger oil capacity.

Of course both filter are bigger than the original Fomoco unit. Some pictures attached.

The Ford racing appears to be larger diameter. Is the mating side identical? If it is then I would use the FL820.

I don't think the oil cooler is big enough to accept the bigger filter but you are not really missing much with 500S. If the factory tiny one is fine for the first oil change at 10k miles, the 500S is more than enough.

Yes thread and seal is identical between FL500S and FL820, they both definetely fit fine.

I gave my Ford dealership both and tech looked inside the larger one and said use this, it will flow better.

I am going to ask FRPP directly later for their recommendation as both are designed for use on the 5.0 Coyote.

Larger media will flow with less restriction. What is important is the capability to filter out the contaminates, I'd like to know the "micron" rating on the FL500s vs FL820.

I don't have a GT only a V6 but since day one when I purchased my car I had the FL500S. Now I order all the time the FL500S whenever I do my oil change.

I was told by FRPP to use the FL820 style.

I figure, since FRPP is Ford...that was good info. ;)

That ford racing oil filter has no place for the oil filter wrench to grip onto at all?

I cannot comment on the FRPP filter, but I have always used the FL500S. You can't go wrong with the OEM filter!

Hi there

So I spoke with Ford Racing directly and they said the FL820 filters better, flows better and has a better valve. So I shall use the FL820 filter I have. :)

The adviser also said if I plan on taking my car to the track / race circuit, though 5w20 is the recommend oil they do also recommend the use of 5w50 when it comes to track work.

He also gave me this link for the FL820 filter where the advantages are mentioned:
https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-6731-FL820

He said for higher rpm and track work the 5w50 gives the engine better protection up top and he recommended:
Motorcraft 5w50
Mobil 1 5w50
Valvoline 5w50

The only downside to the thicker oil is slightly lower gas mileage. :)
He said for 5w20 using oils carrying WSS-M2C945-A or WSS-M2C948-B spec and 5w50 to use oils with the WSS-M2C931-b or WSS-M2C931-c spec.
