I have a PMAS intake and have looked at where the hood vent goes over the intake. I haven't figured if it'd be an issue with water as long as it's not a carwash blasting water in the hole.

Do you block off the vent? Am I supposed to? What do you use?

Unless you're driving through carwashes and rainstorms all the time, you don't do anything, just enjoy the intake.

Absolutely. My car is my daily and I'm in Florida. All the blue oil washed off my PMAS in just a couple months and less than 500 miles. Shoved a big coffee (black plastic so it's invisible) can lid under the hood liner. Will need a new solution now that I'm pulling my hood liner. I'll likely use a bigger piece of black plastic affixed to the underside of the hood using double sided tape on 3 sides and leaving the front open so it can drain up front by the headlight.

A lot of people are running aftermarket intakes designed that way. I see no reason to block the extractor. Besides, I think that would raise your IAT and lessen airflow to the filter. If you are concerned about water, you could always look at making a deflector plate to let water drain away from the filter, while still allowing air to flow around the plate.

I wouldnt run an open filter without addressing this issue personally...

I have it that way on my '15....and ended up taping the hole up.

I am now going to put the air filter in the fender. The filter gets SOAKED....as is right now.

On my '16...it's closed airbox for me.

Interesting. I don't usually drive my Mustang in the rain but car washes have never been an issue for me. One could probably put a fine mesh in there as a barrier. I haven't tried it, but surface tension might make most of the water roll off vs drip down.

We have several cars in our Pompano, FL location with the CAI installed, going back to 2011.

We have driven them through rainstorms, hurricane-like weather & car washes ... several of them are daily drivers & we have had 0 issues with water causing an issue.

Best Regards,

TJ

I bought a jlt cold air intake and added a jlt prefilter on it . The water rolls right off the filter and it also keeps it free of dirt and other particles . It was only 20 something bucks . Worth every penny just for peice of mind
