HI all,
I got permission from mods to open a new thread about the tribar mod but please avoid talking about people\company that are not permitted here.

I will report here the main steps from the guide I made in the old thread.

IMPORTANT: If you don't see the images, try installing this chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...ed-fix/naolkcpnnlofnnghnmfegnfnflicjjgj?hl=it
It's a temporary solution until I have time to upload pictures to some other hosting site. Thank you!
----------------------------------------

I'm really sick to see those horrible fog-light drls every time I get out of the car. Damn Ford why you made those cool signature tribar led and give us those ugly drls?
We all should make the mod and then ask Ford for a refund! :amen:

However, after seeing a video about a completed tribar led mod, with a sequential amber turn like Diode Dynamics did, I decided that it's been time to do it!

INDEX
1. Preparation (below in this post)
2. Installation (part 1) (part 2)
3. Videos (night, day and close-up)

WHAT'S THIS?
Our headlights lacks the signature tribar led DRLs since it appears to be illegal  in some euro countries. The MOD 'fix' this, adding three led bars inside the headlights into the place they are supposed to be ;). Also this mod had added an extra set of amber leds to have cool sequential turn lights in DRLs!

1. PREPARATION

I searched for a video tutorial and info, and started to dismantle my new car. I throw out of the garage my parents' Alfa Romeo 147, placed the Mustang in the center and took my giant working lights, jack stands and lift :D

I made a separate thread on how to remove front bumper and headlights, so it's easier to find if someone do a search.

>>> How-To: Remove front bumper and headlights (US and EU model) <<<

This is a 3-months Mustang now:

:eyebulge:

I made a huge package with lots of bubble wrap and protections, and sent it away.. bye bye lights!! See you soon
(I sent away my taillights too, but this is another story...)

I'll post here all the installation steps with wirings and connections, so you all can decide if it's worth it :clap2:

I had the idea of wiring the new drl to the stock drl cable, removing the stock ugly drl. Problem is that the power in this cable is 'strange' and sometimes new drl won't lit. You need to get power from another source (e.g window wipers motor) and voilĂ , all working perfectly! :headbonk:

Again, Ford you created those badass tribar DRL and when you export this car worldwide.. you remove them??

So, on installing!

2. INSTALLATION part 1

Both headlights have 4 new wires coming out from the housing:
+12V - power for the sequential module
TURN - sequential turning light
DRL - high brightness DRL
PARK - low brightness DRL

DRLs have two brightness level so when parking\headlights are on, DRLs dim a bit, otherwise they are too bright at night.

Workplace lights set

And all nuts\bolts\screws are identified :)

Reconnect both light and height level adjust connectors, before reinstalling the housing to the car

Remember to reconnect this clip holding cables in order :)

Headlights has a perfect fit thanks to a couple of prong. Don't overtight bolts, after all you are working on plastic!

Start wiring by finding a constant 12v source from fuse box

One of those three connectors is perfect for that

I have this fuse holder with 5A fuse where I crimped a fork terminal on one end. Wait to connect to 12v until you have wired all the rest.

Then extended it with a red wire (I tried to keep the same color coding for all wires so it's easier to find out how it works even in years :D )

Then route the wire all the way down to the passenger side front light

You also need this 12v at the driver side front light so I choose to pass inside the front bar

and fixed it with tape to the frame

Collect all wires with zip ties

(to be continued..)

2. INSTALLATION part 2

Then, we need to find the 12v switched power for the new drl. One easy place to find is is the window wipers motor. Cables coming from the inside are located here

Remove the tape, the wire you want is violet w\white stripe

I used a quick splice connector and run a brown wire through the side to the driver side front light

This is needed at the passenger side too, so I passed it inside the front bar, together with the red wire

Now you have to get signal from both parking and turning wires

Again I used quick splice connectors and then covered with tape

Do the same on the other side, then connect together all wires of the same color. You should have:

passenger side
- three red: to headlight (seq turn power), from fuse box (constant 12v), to driver side
- two black: to headlight (low brightness drl), from parking light wire
- two brown: to headlight (high brightness drl), from driver side (switched 12v)
- two green: to headlight (seq turn signal), from turning light wire

driver side
- two red: to headlight (seq turn power), from passenger side
- two black: to headlight (low brightness drl), from parking light wire
- three brown: to headlight (high brightness drl), from window wipers motor (switched 12v), to passenger side
- two green: to headlight (seq turn signal), from turning light wire

To made it waterproof, I used the higher technology I have available: a small plastic bag :D

Remember to also cover the stock drl connector since you don't want to have those horrendous light (even disconnected, you will get no errors from ECU)

Last thing, connect the red fused wire to the fuse box

There is also room to keep this small fuse holder inside it the fuse box

Now you only need to reinstall bumper and reconnect fog, parking and turning light connectors, and the pedestrian safety sensor.

DONE!

These are really beautiful...! :clap2:
Video will follow

Guys we got the permission from mods to have a thread like this, but to keep away problems please avoid talking about people\company that are not permitted here.

We need this space to keep in one place all the info about this beautiful mod!

Edit: thanks John :)

John577's tribar mod - Diode Dynamics Boards

As papinist reopened this thread, I'll also share here the mod I've done on my car with the Boards from Diode Dynamics.

------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the short version without pictures :

  • +12V for DD modul -> I used the power cable from the wipers
  • Ground for DD modul -> I used a ground that I found in the area of the headlights
  • +12V for turn -> Sequential turn also have a modul that need power, for that, I plug the cable to the fuse box to have always power (with a new fuse)

  • Turn cable -> Plug it to you Stock turn cables to activate turn

Here's the story with pictures ... :D :ninja: :

+12V for DD modul -> I used the power cable from the wipers

Ground for DD modul -> I used a ground that I found in the area of the headlights

+12V for turn -> Sequential turn also have a modul that need power, for that, I plug the cable to the fuse box to have always power (with a new fuse)

Turn cable -> Plug it to you Stock turn cables to activate turn

Connect it to the (+) of your turn signal cable

Here's where I put the DD modul :

To attach the cables I used this. Very fast and very good to plug it to your stock cables.

And this for the connexion to the fuse box :

And this to adjust the lenght of the cables :

And the last tool that you really need to have, THE ELECTRICIAN TAPE :headbang:
So that way you can isolated your cables.

I also installed resistor to my car, so now, I have no longer the turn signal that flashes very fast on the Dash.

That's how to plug your resistor for the turn signal, very easy.

And after a long night, the finished view is just amazing !!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Here's the video :

- tri-bar + sequential turn in action

Cheers

Great job!! Is this done recently (with the new led drivers) or is your first install some time ago?
It's great to have both installation types in the same thread, thank you for the fast posting :D

It's still the first install. I haven't had the time yet to install the new drivers.

You know, I need to remove headlights again and again ...

Should be done this weekend if everything is going like I plan :hail:

And I want it to be perfect for the Lux meet :first:

Awesome, finally the tribar topic is back :D

I will get mine installed around Early July. It's a shame they had to remove it for the EU Mustang
