My "Gnome Spare" shipped today from Tempe Tyres. Ordering process was straight forward and painless, there was about a week delay in getting the tyres from their depot to the store they ship from but all in all happy with the service.

Received my 'Gnome spare' from Tempe tyres today and just wanted to thank John and Tempe for all the ground work to solve this issue, well done all!

I have been giving this topic a lot of thought :frusty: and I think my personal solution will be order a full size front rim and tyre and carry that in the boot if I'm doing a long run out in the bush
I believe mustang Motorsport in Melbourne has what they call a take off wheel available. I think they are the ones they have left from customer upgrades, somewhere around the $500 mark and will fit on the rear
In the metro area I will use my road side assist

I did this myself at first and bought it from Mustang Motorsport and although I think it is good to have one you need to think about the following:
* The front wheel is very, very heavy to lift in and out of the boot - I got a sore back from doing it because you have to bend forward to get it in
* Because it is oversize for the wheel well in the boot it scrapes against the black plastic lip that you see across the back of the boot - as I was putting the wheel in the plastic lip flicked in and out of the tread as it was going in and I thought it was going to break
* I really didn't like the way it sat in the car
* subsequently took it out and have stored it in the garage
* I bought a gnome spare which fits in really well - the plan is to use this to get me home and then put the proper wheel on.

I guess I had to experience it to know myself. Hope this helps.

$50 - $80 at a wrecker. Hate to think what it would be new.

All up about $250 through my dealer. I phoned a few wreckers and decided it was going to be a PITA so getting a new one.

There are occasionally ones of eBay for cheaper than that which is easier than a wrecker.

I opened up the box for the lug nuts that came with my spare from Tempe Tyres today, and it had a plastic, silver ring in it too. Does anyone know what the ring is for?

It fits over the centre of the Hub.

This ensures the wheel is 100% centralised on the Hub, before the Lug Nuts are tightened.
