Oh god, here we go. Auto owners getting triggered.

The question is, who in here with an auto tracks their car (not DRAG) and what is their experience? That's all we need to know. We know the auto is better for shift points when it comes to drag racing but that's different than track racing. How quick are the up and downshifts when it's important.

I would be nice to see a head to head same spec'd Mustangs in auto and PP 3.73 on a course and see who wins.

Not the same cars but the ZL1 did better in manual than the A10 speed on the track.
I didn't mean to go down a rat hole and meant no offense. I was just stating my experience with the durability of the 6R80 not which was better. No offense intended.

Actually, it's rated to handle 800 newton-meters (which is 590 lb-ft), which is still plenty stout.

My 6R80 has seen about 300 passes at our local dragstrips and launches at 5,000 rpm's (aftermarket stall converter) and has been bullet proof. The 6R80 is one of the toughest transmissions on the market from an OEM.
I stand corrected. Meant to say N-m.

Yeah, and we don't anything about that new 10 speeder - I've heard some bad feedback from Raptor users...if they start in the same manner as the 8 speed MOPAR model(zillion recalls and problems)than I would stick to 6R80 without any regrets!
I gotta say that I really like the 8 speed auto in my MOPAR ('16 Challenger Scat Pack 6.4L). It shifts lightning quick and is always in the right gear. The 6R80 in my '14 GT doesn't like to be manually shifted and sometimes hunts for the right gear, but it's bullet proof and flawless at WOT. Hopefully Ford's new 10 speed works better in the Mustang than it does in the much heavier Raptor.

The problem with the 6R80 is the slow downshifts, and hesitation when using the manual shifting paddles or buttons on the stalk. It was fine for WOT acceleration, but sucked at road course track duty.

Lund tune can fix that

8 speed that Dodge offers is light years ahead of the slush box I had in my Mustang. Transmission was by far the worst thing about my GT.

I open track mine a couple times a year.

It's not perfect for road course duty but once you get yourself settled and used to it, you can time the downshifts. I never felt I was slowed using the auto vs a manual. But i wanted the strength that came with the auto vs the mt82. Too many shitty manual transmissions lately. Didn't want the headache.

I have no idea what you're talking about...
Probably because you have a tune.

Lund tune can fix that
Yes, but the (stock tuned) car should know when you put in Sport or Track mode to tighten up the shifts and work more like these aftermarket tunes.

And that's the problem, you have to time it and shift it a little ahead of time knowing its going to take longer than you want to get in that next gear. I hated that about my 2014 GT with Auto.

I'm pretty certain the A10 will fix these issues, considering the ZL1 performance and other similar "generation" autos. The 6R80 is kind of a last generation transmission and I don't think they did much to improve the programming of it the past few years.

Is it better with a tune? Of course but it was not that bad to begin with.

Sure there are better AT's out there but I just can't complain given the money I paid for this car.

Since the coyote could use some help in the low end grunt area, I am hopeful the 10 speed along with being able to get low gear ratio maybe in the automatic will make it a lot more fun for daily driving.

I understand. For me, the few times I go are still plenty enjoyable. And the solid reliability of the transmission makes me feel better. Plus it's better in traffic haha.

It's not a DSG so I don't have that expectation of speed. But I know others do and hopefully the new 10spd will be quicker shifting and just as strong.

Honestly, I wish the gt350 manual was the standard transmission in the GT. I will not buy a car with that shit mt-82 transmission.

The problem with the auto is the super tight converter, not the gearing.

I am not familiar with the tight converter or the issues that presents. I just want a transmission or gearing to keep the motor closer to its power zone and have better pull shift to shift as a daily driver. The 2 that I test drove felt quite slow doing normal driving.

Why is it on the board that stating an opinion yields comments like "Auto owners getting triggered"??

Not sure what tracking a car has to do with wanting better handling on the street and an auto?
It's not like the non PP GT is all that great a handling car, especially with stock 235's.

The 50TH Anniversary Limited Edition Mustang GT had all the Performance Pack parts and could be purchased with an auto. Why Ford never offered the Performance Pack with an auto after that didn't make much sense as the engineering work was done.

Well with 1st gear in the transmission being 4.17 on the auto that's plenty to get you out of the hole. But the stock tune is awful.
