According to the UK magazine, Autocar, there will be!

This small article detailed the recently announced pricing for the UK models, but looks how they drop a little bombshell about a HP jump to 500 within 18 months.

Now, I'll give Autocar credit as they are normally pretty accurate with their information. I will be writing to them, but suspect I won't get a reply. I don't, for a second, think this is just related to the UK spec......we'll only get a power boost on the back of anything produced for the home (US) market. You'll see we're already down on power (412BHP equates to 418HP.....down from the US 435HP)

So, 500 brake horsepower would be 507HP :eyebulge:

There's already been forum talk of a DI Coyote and the 18 month timescale would make sense ('17MY anyone?). Still, 500bhp seems a bit steep and I'd expect something more like 450-470hp.

Maybe they are referencing the release of the GT350 even though that is not an upgrade to the 5.0 but a whole different engine. That would be roughly the correct timing.

That did cross my mind, but I don't think so. They've reported on the GT350 previously (just last week, in fact, as they also reported on the new GT(40) ).

I'll let you know if I get a response to my communication with them :)

"Ford's latest Sync2 system...." ?

I'm not putting much stock in that article. A 500hp GT would put a serious hurt on GT350 sales if true, for no other reason than bragging rights and narrow-minded bench racing.

It'll be very interesting (customers' reactions) if they pull another 2010/2011.

Yes, I don't see them upgrading the engine 65 bhp, its not going to happen.

With regards the Sync 2 comment............that's just for the first cars to reach the UK. And I guess Sync 2 is the latest............until Sync 3 comes out for the '16MY :)

I agree, 500hp seems way too steep. Rather than the actual figure, I'm more interested in where they think the additional horses are coming from. I still maintain a conservative 450-470hp would be all we'd get, and that leave plenty of space for the GT350's 500hp +

18 months will put us in MY17, no? GT350 will be MY16 if I remember correctly.

I just don't see 500 happening. That would be absolutely huge for this market though and props if they can get it done. I'm guessing 450-460.

I agree, a DI Coyote may add 25-35hp and maybe help bring the torque a bit more level with the HP too. A 475hp, 450tq DI Coyote would be cool and, is probably doable at the current MPG. But, if PTWA is introduced, who knows what they could do with more piston. I would rather they stay where they are at with the Bore:Stroke ratio. It is very balanced as is...

It is only 25hp but, we are talking a pretty major feat for an engine. 100hp per Liter is hard to do and still get MPG's and emissions, especially Euro4-6.

Indeed........let Camaro have its model year ('16) in the sun, then Ford comes swinging back in '17 with more power and torque.

I'm also interested to know if this bump will come with the first sheet metal refresh, although I'd not expect that before '18MY

:)

People already complain about how the fuel economy didn't improve with the '15. So Ford is going to bump up the power by 15% and fuel economy will be unaffected? I don't see that happening. CAFE is real.
