Yup.

This site is full of well intentioned "what if", "could do", "should do", "might run", etc. All conjecture, no hard data.

Take an auto GT, same time, same day, same driver, make half a dozen runs in D and half a dozen in S.

And there you go ...
Fixed it for you.

Can't seem to get anything better than 5.4... I've tried everything. These are advertised at 4.5 stock. What are some things people did to get sub 5? Completely stock.

I'm pretty sure there's no difference whether you let the trans shift, or you flip a paddle. I think what happens is exactly the same thing.

If there's something technical I'm missing, please explain.
You're adding an extra unnecessary step to the process, and a human one at that. It's probably not a huge difference in time, but I'm sure it adds some. I find the paddles fun for when I went to choose my own shift points but for WOT driving the auto is quicker, in my experience anyway.

I have 89 octane in it right now, will 91 or 93 make a big difference?

yea it should help a little bit. i was stuck in the mid to low 5's for while too.

the biggest difference comes from traction. if your spinning the whole time then its all useless. you need traction.

if you are in a cold place or have the shitty stock tires, you aint running 4.5

I only got it after it was warm, upgraded to better thicker tires

A few HP in a GT. I always run 93. It's not necessary but I prefer to. I think Ford claims like a 10hp increase.
