For hose still running a stock air box is there any benefit at all removing the carbon filter in the top of the lid? Or is is just a emissions thing and no benefit to removing

BMR Tech would be able to say, as he's done it.

In for an answer too. I'm still running my original paper filter, need to swap out to a K&N, AFE, etc., to pair with my Mishimoto intake tube, and I was thinking when I swapped out, I might investigate the need for that carbon filter.

I have never seen that filter? Got any pics of it by chance?
It's just a "packet" stuck to the top of the lid as I recall ... didn't even know it existed until I saw it one day and was like "what is this for?".

It is the first layer of filter. Likely filtering moisture

Most of the carbon filters that OEMs put in the airbox are to trap fuel vapors when the vehicle is turned off. I bought a replacement upper lid because my original got crushed in storage. The new part had the posts but no filter so I grabbed the dremel, cut them out and smoothed the areas. It was around 12 bucks plus shipping.

A friend of mine has the Ford patent on it. Removing it does nothing (his claim). It is only there to address the fumes that come up from the engine through the TB.

He retired a few years ago, but he was so excited when they got the patent, I still remember it.
