Pretty exciting topic I know, so try to remain calm ;)

My GT is on the way & I already purchased a set of black PP wheels (take-offs). Been looking at lug nuts because I wanted black ones & not the silver ones that come on the car.

Not much to pick from out there and the 2 front runners (Gorilla & a set from AM) seem to have the same issues:

1) the seat "lip" is not as wide as the OE, exposing an unpainted ring around the nut
2) questions about the ability to torque them to the req'd 150 ft/lbs

Has anyone here found black lugs that will work ? Have you installed either of the 2 I mentioned above & had them secure the wheel properly & stay put ?

Especially concerned as I will be getting the Roush Stage 1 S/C installed, so I'll be putting down more power than the OE set-up. My other thought was to try & get a set of OE lugs from someone who was not going to use theirs & see about getting them powder coated.

Thoughts/suggestions ??

Not sure if you have the Ford supplied wheel locks, but they are chrome and wouldn't match any replacement black lug nuts.

The Gorilla Automotive 71643NBC are NOT the ones you want. The Conical Seat contact area is smaller than the original lugs, NOT good for aluminum wheels tighting down @ 150ft-lbs! I bought these based on this thread and returned them to Amazon.

Gorilla Wheel Locks 96643BDX ARE the ones you want.
Key phrase here is: Conical Seat Type = Bulge
With these you will not see the "Silver Ring" of aluminum wheel showing around the smaller 71642NBC lugs, meaning you do have the design full Conical Seat contact area !!!

I found them at:

I didn't order the OE wheels locks knowing I was going to swap out the wheels for the PP ones + I live in the sticks & the car will always be garaged. Wheel theft is not much of an issue around here.

Any opinions on the AM one's?
My experience with AM lugs is terrible, but they were on my 14. I doubt the nuts on the 15 are any better quality.

The gloss black looked great at first, but it faded over time and after removing and installing a few times the nuts became very warn and ugly.

I'd spend the extra money on Gorillas.

I just installed the 96643BDX ones that I ordered from Summit and they are perfect. They arrived in two days and the seats are exactly like the stock lugs. I torqued all of them to 150 and no issues.

i have the original gorilla black lugs on the 15 now. i didnt have any troubles with them, yes they are a bit more narrow than the OE ones, but if anything happens i have the original for backup till i get new ones.....if that happens.
just a question.... but do you think they could sell them without testing them first for durability?
