Wow; I guess age must be a thing now as I'd flat-out refuse to pay anything like £1000 to insure mine - I've had quotes as high, but for V8 Vantages and 911 Turbos - even those are now £400 (again, cos I am old I suspect). I have a multi-car policy and pay £650 for three cars together - Monaro, Mustang and Viva (roughly £200, £300 and £100) with Admiral. I suspect from what I read here, that'll rise on renewal as I'm told most policies are going up around 20%.

wait until you crash and they'll take the "cheapest" option. Which would be just paying out (Can you tell who insured me when I get rear ended..... and who got the blame)
At least you're not bitter ;)

It is telling that in year one all of us over a certain age were getting quotes of £168. Year two and its 200/300/400/500. Definitely more data available to base premiums on. That is of course assuming there is at least a little logic in the process...

Nope not at all :clap2::clap2: (goes for both statements, with immense sarcasm)

I think that the reason our insurance has now rocketed was that in year 1 quite a few of us getting the £168 quotes were on the phone to insurers and we just fell off our chairs in hysterics at the ridiculously low quote. It cost me more to insure my 1.6 Focus with the same company (Direct Line).

That's bonkers! Can I assume you are 20-something? I have just turned 30 and not expecting to pay more than £1k - bear in mind I had an accident 2.5 years ago and only have 3/4 years NCB.

Just got a quote from A plan. 650 with all mods covered. More than I wanted but happy I'm properly covered now
Will have to give them a try seems like most people are going with them. However Manders says under 25's pay a big premium with them. best i have had so far is admiral at £970 after looking around more. Would ideally like to get under 800

Directline been best for me, £940 2 year NCD. £800 first year (£0 excess).

A Plan told me under 25 they'd struggle to match, and that's with me speaking to specific people at A plan who "know" who I "am" within the mustang community and can't come close to Directlines price, even asked them to run it with no mods on and they couldn't get close.
Brentacre, Classicline etc etc, all refused me as under 25. A place called "sky insure" (I think) who "specialise in modded and young drivers and affordable prices" and talk the talk, quoted me something absurd (12k ish). Even quoted me £3k for the corsa I used to have as I did it to see if it was a joke.

A lot of insurance companies are funnily enough underwritten by the same groups. Directline have a "Return user discount" you have to ask for it though :headbonk:

No worries, I always call up if I think I can get it a bit cheaper. I usually go in with the get a new quote, if they over quote vs the internet one i'll tell them I've got cheaper.

Admaril have given me cheap quotes but I have a personal aversion to them

insurance is just a joke in general i swear the insurance companies just randomly make numbers up.

Me and missus same age 2 weeks apart in age difference.
£580 a year for her 16 plate focus ST 10 years no claims no points no accidents.
£340 a year for my 66 plate mustang, 20 years no claims (makes no difference insurers only go to max 9 anyway) no points no accidents.

We both work 3 miles from home do similar driving distances a year and types of driving etc both have cars on the drive and at the same property... someone care to explain the price difference there.

Young lad working for me bought an old 3 series BM 325 if he had the insurance start on a Thursday they wanted £2.5k if he started it on the Friday 24h later they only wanted £1.7k

Anyone saying insurance companies don't just pluck random figures out is telling porkies. They pick a random figure and hope that law of averages people don't dispute it and just pay it. Then if someone disputes the figure quoted they bring the pricing down.
