I have used an Escort Passport extensively in the last 2-3 years. It works pretty good for radar and security systems and drives me crazy in constructions zones. All those lighted orange signs set it off like crazy. You'd think for the money it would be a little smarter, but I'm going to be upgrading in the near future for the mustang. It doesn't stand a chance at laser. If you get hit with laser. Go ahead and pull over, it's too late. The passport is hell on picking up CVS security systems too ;)

Buy a Ford Flex you can drive like a sports car and never get pulled over.
Trust me it is so unfair its not even funny how sports cars get pulled over so
often, yet moms in mini vans can speed and break the laws all day and not get
caught. I've seen teenage kids get pulled over and harassed by police officers just because they are kids in a car. I would imagine they make up any excuse to search their cars for drugs. Not that I blame them. Its all a manner of optics,
Police officers are looking for what stands out in a crowd - red mustang sports car - Oh Yeah I see you, every other car gets drowned out in the visual noise of every day traffic. Why do you think they use the color red on bulls?

Sorry to hear you got the ticket - Get a lawyer and try to get out of it, otherwise your insurance rates will go up.

:ford:
As a police officer, I can tell you that you are 100% wrong. When I am running traffic, I don't look for "what stands out in the crowd" as in car description, I look for "what stands out in the crowd" as far as traffic violations. I don't give one cent if it's a red Lambo or a beige soccermom mobile, if you are doing something that attracts my attention, it isn't because of the vehicle you are in. If you pulled up my traffic citations, the vast majority of them are SUV's, usually in white or darker colors like grey. Why? Because that just happens to be the type and color of vehicle which is usually piloted in such a way that passes the threshold of what I consider a warnable offense vs a ticketable one. Probably because people assume cops look at red sports cars before beige SUV's.

FWIW, I drive a Ruby Red 2015 GT/PP with a giant TireRack banner across the windshield, Bridgestone stickers above the front wheel arches, a bunch of event stickers, etc, and I've been pulled over ONCE. I was going 83 in a 75 on my way to Nationals and it was a totally justified stop. Wasn't even shocked that it happened. Was more shocked that the trooper that stopped me wasn't the one who clocked me but the aircraft flying overhead, but hey, the State Patrol has fixed wing aircraft for exactly that purpose. Was it because the car was red? Doubtful as they usually clock every vehicle going through the measuring area and I was high enough to get stopped.

Prior to this I had a 2009 Mustang GT, in Dark Candy Apple Red (which was the official color name, not Redfire as some say), which not only had all those stickers on it, but was lowered, had wheels that stuck out of the wheel arches ever so slightly, and had a loud ass exhaust on it. ZERO traffic stops.

Why? Because I don't do stupid stuff on the public roadway because I know better.

beige is no longer in fashion :

Silver Is The New Beige, The Official Boring Color Of Everything We Loathe

Now if you get cut off by someone not paying enough attention behind the wheel, chances are, it’s no longer a beige car. It’s silver. Apparently beige is now too daring of a color, so the cars-as-appliances set have gone to a paint job devoid of even a dull sandy sheen. And boy, is it everywhere.

The only time I ever got out of a speeding ticket was with a Washington State Trooper. He got me in my Tiburon a few years back. I feigned that I couldn't speak English and went through pretty much all the French I could remember. I had the dude completely flustered and pantomiming on the side of I-5 trying to explain that I shouldn't be speeding.

Finally, completely exhausted by the situation, he just screamed at me "Get outta my country ya *effing* Canook!"

"merci, monsouir."

And I took off.

I considered red for my Mustang, but my better judgment prevailed. I have a bright Red AMC Javelin and she's been the #1 cause of 99% of the speeding tickets in my past.

The Porsche in front of you was going 120 mph and you wanted to keep up with him?

Jokes aside, a state trooper is not like a local cop. If you get pulled over by one of them, just hope that they give you 2pt ticket instead of 4pt. That's the best you are going to get because it would be a waste of their time just to let you go from speeding. Some might flash the lights at you to warn you or ride your ass until you slow down, but if they took the time to pull you over, forget it.

I had my first ticket in 20 years earlier this year as well on the PA turnpike. I was in a line of cars, in the right hand lane, with my seatbelt on being last in line as well. I think I was doing 85 in a 65.

The policeman that pulled me over could not have been nicer. Despite the recent news, this guy was awesome. I knew my roll as well. I kept my hands where he could see them. I was polite and called him sir. Said thank you and basically was as polite and respectful as I could be.

Halfway through the routine of giving me a ticket, he broke script, paused, and started telling me about a 2005 Mustang GT he had. He said when I went by him, the exhaust had a really nice sound. He wanted to know what I had done to it. I actually showed him the video I have of myself doing 145mph on the Pocono Speedway. I revved the engine for him. I could tell he really liked the car.

I ended up getting a sitation for not wearing a seatbelt. I was, but that was a $75 dollar ticket. (I think).

that was a great interaction. I have seen him there several time since. I give him a wave and rev as I go by.

I'm already concerned that this new Ruby Red GT is going to take my license. Like others have said, it's way too easy to go too fast in these things.

True story: Some years ago I was going with the traffic flow of around 10 over in my red 88 GT and was pulled over by a NJ State Trooper. I asked him why I was pulled over when I was just going with traffic, and his response while writing the ticket was "which is more fun, pulling over a red Mustang or a Cadillac"? I shut up and hired a lawyer and got it thrown out.

I had 5 tickets in that Red 88 GT that was totaled in a wreck in snow (Mustangs don't do well in snow). I bought a blue 88 GT afterwards and never got a ticket, and drove the same.

I had a red Honda VFR motorcycle and was pulled over multiple times while going with the flow of traffic. One time the Trooper said he just wanted to see the bike, another time I was told to slow down while again going with the flow of traffic. And yet another time I was pulled over and held because they were looking for a red bike that had run from the cops.

Don't tell me red doesn't get noticed more than other colors. I also bet bright yellow gets noticed.

Not all police officers are created equal. I am sure you are a fine officer and uphold the law. But I live in Miami FL and I can tell you I have seen officers look the other way while violations were happening. My father passed away 1 1/2 years ago from a soccer mom in a mini van speeding thru a red light. Multiple witnesses - she slammed into the driver's side door. My father had multiple injuries fought three weeks to stay alive, put twice on a ventilator. Officer just gave her a ticket for running a red light and posted an estimated speed of 30 mph. Which is complete bullshit. She got off with points & a fine. Don't think that is justice. That being said I appreciate your honesty and I am glad your a honorable police officer and upholding the law. I've seen abuses on both sides - police officers & civilians. We all need to take life more seriously because we only live once.

That may be out of the officers control. Depends on Florida's laws. And then it's up to DA's office if they want to pursue criminal charges. In La., if you commit a traffic violation like failure to yield and accidentally kill someone on a motorcycle, it's just a traffic violation. Now if you're impaired, reckless operation, running from the police, etc then they can pursue criminal charges like negligent homicide.

The family can then go after the negligent party in civil court. Florida may be the same way.

Let's stop berating our nice neighbor to the north and talk radar detectors.

I used to use them years ago but the instant on radar and laser made them hit or miss.

How does today's Valentines and Passports work against those?

I don't speed much the last 12 years driving a Tacoma but a new GT may have me hitting the loud pedal a bit more!
Radar detectors are like condoms. There is no one size fits all and none of them are 100% effective.

You got to do your research and find the one that works best for you.
https://www.rdforum.org/content/ is pretty much the gold standard for info on the subject.

The proper way to speed is to have your rabbit out in front of you and keep the tortoise behind you. Always maneuver to keep yourself in the middle

I just got a speeding ticket in the mustang. I will say that even though I was speeding, I was just keeping up with the other cars. Had the cruise on and didn't think much about it til the lights were on.
I actually feel that I was being targeted because it's a bright red Mustang with tinted windows.
State trooper asked if I knew why I was being stopped. I was very polite and agreed that I was speeding, but that I was also just keeping with flow of traffic. I wasn't in the fast lane or anything. Even explained that I haven't been pulled over in like 15 years or more and never a speeding ticket.
No dice. Lol. Here you go sir

Race Red :headbang:

Love that color but it sticks out. My car is a DD and I went with black. Not noticed as much on the highway and in a parking lot it blends right in kinda sorta. Love the Race Red tho. I almost went with it but all my women said they wanted to see me in a Black Mustang

If this makes anyone feel better i received a speeding ticket while heading home from shift. I was in my uniform(firefighter) and the guy still ticketed me plus gave me a no proof of insurance ticket because my phone was taking forever to load up my insurance card. I asked him why he couldn't give me a break since i haven't received a ticket in 9 years and he said because you know what speed does. I said well thank you trooper and went about my business. I hired the ticket clinic though and I'm currently waiting for the results for that case.

I like black myself but I believe that Ingot (sp?) is the stealthiest. All that said, a state trooper friend of mine said although he does not profile vehicles in his experience the Chevy Avalanche always seem to be speeding.
