To be honest , both cars offer a good driving experience. Driving both will give a person a better appreciation as to how each car does what it does soo well. After having my SS I loved how it took off and all the low end hp/tq it had. When I got my GT I loved how it pulled like a beast on the top end. I didn't realize how slow my SS felt up top until I got my GT. And I didn't realize how slow the GT felt until I compared it to the SS. You can clearly see the strengths and weakness of both cars when you go between the two.
I think where I'm stuck on this is..the camaro in the curves isn't all that much better (certainly not 40k better), but in the straights his supercharged mustang should be far superior, being at or north of 600hp). So....what's the benefit of owning them at the same time? Unless he wants to just because..lol. There's really no rationalization required for just because.

In the market for a S550 - doing homework
Thanks for this post. I don't have either, but I joined this forum because my mind is finally set, and it'll be an S550 GT. I love the ass end too much. My coworker has a '14 GT and my brother has a '14 SS 1LE. I like both, but something about the ass end of the S550's make me want one, BAD. Anyways, you guys don't care, I just wanted to say thanks for this comparison. While the new 16 1LE is better than my brothers '14, it's still close enough of a comparison for me and this post has me thinking I'll stick to my choice.

daniel_94kg . Thanks for sharing. Keep posting updates here as you compare them.

I love my Stang and its heavily modded (lots of suspension and shifter) and drives great - Vs stock PP its way more agile, rear end completely settled and front end more pointy/turns in much faster/no under steer. There is a liveliness about it where it's pretty obvious I have more suspension than engine at this point. I have no plans of FI, I like the power and want to keep cooling issues and nose weight as low as I can. My two biggest asks are I do wish I had more steering feedback and a slightly tighter ratio.

To be perfectly honest though, I'm $10K ish in on mods and I do occasionally still cross-shop my car with the 1LE and wonder if I would have been better off getting the better handling car (and faster one) straight from the factory.Esp when I see these insane lap times from the 1LE (compared to the stock PP GT), I wonder if I have closed this gap or if there is some suspension/handling 'magic sauce' that I can simply not aftermarket - keep in mind I havent even driven the 1LE to compare. I will say this, I have driven the GT350 and it doesn't not handle as well as my modded GT and doesnt feel much faster under most driving I did (it was in the city, freeway, on ramps etc where I didnt get a chance to stretch its legs, which is not really doing the Voodoo engine justice as it needs to be revved). Handling wise it feels nose heavy, had the same steering feel and while the magnetic ride is well balanced in rough roads and on smooth tarmac, the rear suspension still feels more prone to axle hop.

I think the S550 GT-PP done right (lowered etc) looks much better than the 6th Gen Camaro, however, the exception being the 1LE, esp in blue or the Kypton green you have - it looks amazing so I'll give it a draw.

I'd be willing to bite the cost of trading to the 1LE if the car was noticeably better than my modded Stang (something I need to establish by driving and hearing from guys like you pushing it on the back roads and road course etc). At the same time, I really dont like the tight interior or the 6th gen Camaro, need to fit my infant seat in the rear bench and stroller and baby stuff in the trunk. The Mustangs trunk opening, while generous is barely big enough for the damn stroller - the Camaro's is terrible by comparison. I also worry about downsizing interior wise and of course, the huge depreciation hit as well doesn't really make it easy.

All 4 cars have their trade offs.
M4 is too expensive, will be a nightmare outside of warranty and I think has weird damping and a shitty engine note. OTOH great power and does drive smaller than the Stang (until you push my car hard and it shrinks).
Challenger has solid power, more space but shitty handling from a 20 year old chassis - terrible infact. Questionable FCA reliability.
Camaro 1LE has top notch handling, solid power but they screwed up with poor interior packaging and space - esp given the exterior size.
Stang has solid balance of interior, power, modding potential, looks, handling and long term reliability (is an all rounder), but not a specialist at any of these from the factory. Takes money to make it shine.

No problems with overheating. This was my very first outing 3 days after getting the car, but I have been several times since and have run the car much harder and higher RPMs. Mechanically my SS 1LE is solid and does everything I ask of it, to me if you don't despise the looks of the car then its hard to beat. It's GT350 performance for Focus RS money.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Camaro "fanboy" so don't bother trying to pick a fight with me.

Car looks perfect, is it stock still? Height looks spot on. Man I wish I had room for a v8 American car.

Wonder if you guys are still looking at this thread...

I had the opportunity to follow a Camaro SS a couple of days ago, I can only assume it was a 1LE (it was an SS, white, with black hood). She thought she'd get away from me. I passed her... granted not without trying hard, but I got it done.

I guess the Power Pack 2 made the difference?

With your car being from so far in the future - maybe it was the Mr. Fusion under the hood!

Seriously, though - thanks for the dose of reality in a thread with lots of magazine racers.
