This is a pretty worthless thread.

The STi is only considered "kewl" or a sport car because it is AWD and an obnoxious spoiler. Not because of it's lousy fragile power plant or handling.

A Mustang GT has 152hp advantage over the Subaru STi. The ONLY advantage a STi has is when both cars are not moving.

The Focus RS is not part of this discussion and is a different monster all together.

This was confusing to me, lol.

Are you saying the STi has lousy handling? I don't know about that.

And the STi has an advantage when both cars are not moving? Not sure what you mean by that. Are you saying you like the looks of the STI better?

The RS was brought up because it's also an AWD hot-hatch, just like the STi.

Son, my first car was a 85 Ford Escort, they may have renamed it, but its still a Ford Escort, still not impressed. 300ish hp cheap compact eco-buckets were a dime a dozen a over a decade ago, why should I be impressed today?

If I were still into kiddy over boosted econobox's I'd probably buy the new Civic Type R. That thing can still lap nurburgring in under 8 mins.

Go get an ecoboost Mustang, much better car period.
Lol. I m too old to be your son. And grew up in europe and did drove the ford escort as well. They did drop the escort name and came up with the focus. However you should be impressed with the upcoming Focus RS because of the specs and pricing released by Ford.

If i want to consider an awd turbo four i would certainly go for the new rs. It should be faster, cheaper, better mpg and equally reliable with the competition. The US market is a little spoiled due to the car prices being super low here.

I already drive the gtpp so v8 for me all day long:headbang:

As much as I love my Mustang, unfortunately when ever the the Focus RS comes out its gonna destroy the Mustang in almost every measurable category with a few bolt ons and tune. Its gonna make similar power, weighs alot less, is AWD, has 4 doors, better MPG etc etc.

I love my 5.0, and hope to in a few years add the RS to the stable of cars :D
Stock:mustang wins.

Modded: mustang wins.

Esp with a blower.

The focus is great for its class. Let's leave it at that.

yea seriously. Focus RS is a totally different car for a different market than the mustang GT. Seriously though, Mod for mod the RS will get smoked. 5k for a blower setup you are putting 550-600whp. To do that in an RS you would have to get a fully built motor with huge turbo on race gas.

I'm always curious to see how this AWD system will hold up to repeated launches at the drag stip with sticky tires.

I am actually thinking of holding onto the Mustang for 2 more years, and then trading it in for an RS when I move back to Colorado. definitely worth it for living in the mountains and snow.

nothing wrong with that but again to me both cars serve different purposes. If I need an AWD vehicle the RS would probably be the first car I considered.

To be honest, I would never consider an RS or any other AWD hot -hatch, if I didn't live in NY. If you live somewhere without snow, I think it's a no brainer to go with the mustang. The mustang will be the much better buy too since you can use X-plan pricing while dealers will probably gouge with the RS. In the end you can get a $40k mustang for $37k, or a $37k RS for $40k+

If they're putting an AWD system in the Focus... Can you imagine AWD in a Mustang? Esp an FI Mustang? That crazy power AND handling with the traction to use it?

Oh my gosh.

yea that would be sweet except I'm sure it would cost much much more than 32k. If I want an expensive AWD performance car I would buy an Audi before anything else. B9 s4 is rumored to be 3.0 V6 twin turbo. I like that the mustang is basic an less complicated. Some of these AWD cars take the fun out of driving now. The RS7 can run 10s stock by just hitting the gas and keeping the wheel straight.

Oh for sure.

But I'm not talking about the GT.

This is the top of the line focus. So I'm talking about the top of the line Mustang.

But if all Mustangs went AWD, even better as the economy of scale would help quite a bit.

I'm surprised at the numbers for the STI especially being a solid second slower 0-60 than the GT. I rode in an ex coworkers '15 STI and it was a rocket from a dig but it did seem to hit a wall pretty early on though.

little turbos build boost quickly but max out fast. or you can have larger turbos and have more lag, but more up top.
I believe the new sti is a twin scroll system.

The new motor in the WRX is twin scroll not the STi.
