I would imagine that a GT500 must be in the works. I would also not be surprised to see other variants, and a Mach1 makes sense as it has been a while since the last one.

Don't know when the 10 speed transmission will be complete, but I certainly expect that to arrive at some point.

That 10 Speed transmission is a joint effort between Ford and GM BTW.

Should be interesting to see an interchangeable transmission between two highly competitive manufacturers.

Bingo....
Mach 1 will not preclude a GT500 (or the GT350 continuing). You just won't see a GT350 and GT500 at the same time... nor would the Mach 1 outperform the GT350/500 if one is built at the same time.
Agreed.

It is interesting to go back and see what the speculation was on the current GT350 from 1-2 years ago. Some of the respected sources were way off base while others were barking up the right tree.

Mach 1 and the "Terminator" Cobra were produced at the same time in 03/04.

Bringing the Mach 1 name back would not preclude a GT500 at the same time.
+1, and more examples...

1969 saw the intro of the original Mach 1, while GT500's (and Boss 302's and Boss 429's) were also offered. They all coincided in 1970, as well.

1976-78 Mach 1's and Cobra II's were built concurrently (okay, maybe not a great period in Mustang history, but two upscale models were offered at the same time even in the darkest of days).

Mach 1 has been a huge seller for Ford over the years. Ford has built almost 10 million Mustangs since 1964, and 1/2 million were Mach 1's. Mach 1's were built in 12 model years (1969-1978 and 2003-2004). I've owned 2 Mach 1's personally and would love a shot at owning a new S550 version.

Just curious what is special about the Mach 1 to you. Difficult for me to tell how it would be significantly different from say GT PP other than a few performance tweaks and appearance but I plead ignorance and wish enlightenment.:hail:

9,652 2003 and 7,182 2004 Mach 1's were built, contrary to originally being advertised as a one-year limited run model with production set at 6,500 cars. Just some more history on production.

GT350 is staying to compete with the likes of Camaro Z28. Mach1 is replacing the GT500 to compete with the likes of Camaro ZL1 and Hellcat. You heard it here first.

I can see Ford going this direction and using the Mach 1 as the top dog in their HP food chain. Changing things up a bit....

Mach1 would be perfect for their straight line drag strip killer. Probably a little cheaper than the GT350 and better volume as it is more to the mainline of the Mustang faithfull.

With how big the 50th anniversary has been for Ford and the Mustang. I can't see them passing up the 50th for the GT500. Shelby will want a piece of the pie, and would likely support the move as well. The GT350 and GT500 where offered in parallel for some time.

I would venture some of the light weighted components from the GT350 will find it's way into the Mustang. As much as people curse CAFE. We are going to get lighter vehicles from it.

I'd like to know this too. I've always thought it was just a GT with some bling added to it, not a vehicle with significant additional performance.

However, I must confess to significant lack of specifics, especially on the more recent Machs. The 4.6 just wasn't my cup of tea and I must confess I didn't pay much attention to details on the Mustang during the 4.6 years.

The Mach 1 was indeed mostly cosmetic to start with, in essence some different interior trim, stripes, blackout hood with scoop, etc. Base engine on the early ones was a 2-barrel 351, with the rest of the V8s optional as in the rest of the line. The '69 Machs were much more popular than the GT package that year, which led to the disappearance of the GT for many years.

The cool thing about the '03-'04 Machs is they had essentially their own engine that wasn't shared with any other Mustang at the time, a NA DOHC 4.6L. I would suspect that a meaningful S550 Mach 1 would follow suit and have a semi-bespoke powerplant, say a NA 5.2 with cross-plane crank and a bump over GT in terms of horsepower.

A Mach 1 wouldn't really step on the toes of the GT350. My guess is we'll see a Mach 1 in 2017 and then a new Bullitt in 2018!
