Suddenly the guidelines in the reversing camera disappeared. After much hunting through the manual, I discovered it was because my boot/trunk was open!

Can anyone think of **ANY** logic behind disabling the guidelines because the boot/trunk is open???

Since the camera is mounted to the trunk (boot) lid, having it open changes the angle of the lens, making the guidance lines inaccurate.

Yeah, you shouldn't reference a house's 2nd floor window while backing up...

of course (obvious - I should have thought of that!)

Not to mention the fact you didn't notice the warning light on the dash telling you the trunk was open?

ah - no I did notice that, but I was just doing a lap around the block and thought "I best shut that when I get back", then as I backed-in, "oh wtf? where have the guidelines gone? better read the manual"

Well my rear view camera is "unavailable", whatever than means. Stopped working a week ago.

As a programmer, it makes sense. The confidence level drops significantly when the concept of the "trunk_closed = true" comes into play. The car/software has no idea what height the trunk is at... whether it is gently cracked (and still useful) or open 100% of the way pointing to the sky, so it defaults to a mode where it will not suggest guidelines since it has no idea what is in the frame of view.

It's likely a liability thing.

I'm more surprised you didn't get the obnoxious ding and TRUNK OPEN dialog on the center display. That would have been a bigger red flag for me ...

see previous reply - I did spot the trunk open light (it isn't an "info display" thing), but then noticed the lack of guidelines while reversing back in before I got the opportunity to shut the boot/trunk.:)
