My dad asked me a question about what the top speed is on my future car? And I honestly have no idea. I know the 2017 has a top speed of 165mph. So we kinda guessed that it would be around 180? Has anybody seen this in a article? I know that there is some things that Ford has kept hush hush.

I wouldn't expect the top speed to be much higher at all. I don't believe an official figure has been announced though.

I haven't seen anything on here or in the news. I just wanted to be sure I didn't miss it.

Without modification it's going to be around 165mph. I'd be surprised if they bumped it.

So wait... I'm confused how did they bump the hp if the top speed isn't bumped? Or do they just put a governor on it so it can't go passed that speed?

It might well be governed.

However, the extra HP over the '17 will account for the improved acceleration. Top speed would be impacted by drag/gearing and probably lots of other stuff I'm not clever enough to understand :)

Just tell your dad, acceleration can be enjoyed (to a degree) on the street........top speed can't ;)

Assuming that the aerodynamics are essentially the same, 165 would increase to about 168. That's if there are no artificial limitations and engine rpm at top speed in whatever gear is at the power peak.

Top speed - the potential for it, actually - is roughly a cube root function of power available. In numbers only, a 3% more power getting you about 1% more speed kind of thing.

Chief Engineer said speed limited to 155 "because of how we rate the tires". Obviously "tunes" can change this.

Hell, getting to 165mph without thinking your hood is going to fly off would take balls. Mine scares the crap out of me at 135 mph !

PP cars top out at a lower speed, due to gearing.

I'd guess 155.

See about 11:40 in the video. Chief Engineer says it is governed to 155

5th is the 1 to 1 gear in the manual (based on released info in the esource). 6th is .65 so a big rpm drop. 7th is the 1 to 1 gear in the 10A. 8th in the 10A is .85. PP rear end ratios are 3.73 manual and 3.55 10A

155 is close (7.3K) to the rev limiter in 5th gear of the manual and around 4.7K in 6th. 155 is about 7K in 7th gear of the 10A and around 6K in 8th.

The new design is not significantly different and it is probably governed anyway.. The Mustang right now gets squirrelly as fuck at 165 without suspension work.

1. These cars are aerodynamic nightmares. So top speed isn't that great.
2. Top speed has more to do with aerodynamics and gearing, at a given amount of power. So going from 435 to 460 isn't going to make much difference in top speed, it's not much more power. The car could be made to go faster, easier, with the right gearing and aerodynamics.
3. If you have a sense of mortality, top speed is terrifying. I've done 145MPH, and that's as far as I'd want to go.
