I've received a ton of positive feedback after putting XXR 521's on my GT and I thought I'd share the story of getting them fitted for anyone who wants to go a similar route or might run into similar issues.

Here's a video that chronicles the whole story. Its a little long so I'll overview it below

[ame]

Here is how the wheels looked on the S197 they were made for:

Whenever you buy a set of wheels that aren't specifically tailored for your car in offset, it can sometimes become a witch hunt to find the right pieces to get the wheels to fit and work correctly. Common issues are compatible lug nuts and brake caliper clearance.

To get these XXR's on the S550 it was both these issues. I learned the hard way that "Tuner Style Lug Nuts" are rarely accessible at local autoparts stores in our unique lug size. For the S550 Ford changed the Lug Nuts from 1/2”-20 Thread pitch to 14mm-1.50 pitch. This makes for a larger lug nut.

These wheels were originally sized to fit a S197. If you're looking at wheels for older gen mustangs to put on your S550, one big issue is brake caliper clearance. For us, since the standard S550 has a much larger caliper, many S197 wheels will not fit without a spacer in the front. A small spacer ~5mm will do the trick to help with clearance.

It took me half the day to source proper lug nuts here in central fl. If I had known what was needed when i purchased the wheels, I would have ordered proper lug nuts online but I'm impatient and couldn't wait on shipping :headbonk:

If you are thinking of putting a wheel that requires Spline or "Tuner Style" Lug Nuts, here is what you need:

The reason being is that the lug nut hole on this style wheel is much smaller than the stock size and will not accommodate a stock lug nut. These come with their own special socket that easily fits in the smaller hole.

All that's left are center caps which are in route in the mail. I'll update this post when I get those on the car.

Thanks for reading

I watched your video last night by chance, came up on the ol' "binge watch me right now" strip on the right side. Very entertaining, haha. I liked when at some point one of you said, "We're almost done," when in that garage which probably meant mom or dad came out and said "When are you going to GTF out of my garage, kid?!" I know my parents would say that.

Where are you going to get center caps?!

Those wheels look great!

Those wheels look great. Can you get a slightly smaller spacer for the front? Like 5mm? Feel like that might look a wee bit better, but I dunno.
Yea the fronts are kind of a conundrum. I used the smallest spacer I could find but the clearance to the caliper is really really close already. I'll keep doing some research.

Thanks for watching, I appreciate your support! The center caps coming in the mail today :)

Not a fan of XXRs on principal, but can't deny that looks pretty good.

That looks great. Did you use spacers for the rear as well? Any issues with thread? I assume not since it's such a small spacer?

No spacer on the rear. The spacer is super thin, probably 5 millimeters so there's no issue with the thread thankfully

So where did you get these wheels? When I look up on places to buy them, the specs you listed aren't available

always liked those wheels but i was concerned about caliper clearance. i refused to run a spacer so it sucks it requires 5mm for the front to clear.

Absolutely in love with how they look on the car. Just sad that it involves using a spacer. Cause I would love the same set but with a black face and polished lip.
